*10 years later: Main settings and times take place starting in this chapter.*

Harry was almost eleven years old and living  in a cupboard under the stairs in the Dursley house. Dursley was the surname of a Muggle family, the only known living close relatives of Harry Potter at the time.

Petunia Dursley was the older sister of Harry's mother, Lily Potter, but took the surname Dursley when she married Vernon Dursley. He was tormented by the Dursleys' son, Dudley, a spoiled and whiny boy.

The home of the Dursleys consisted of two floors. Inside, the house was, if anything, even neater than the perfectly presented gardens. The downstairs consists of a living room, dining room, kitchen, hall, and the cupboard under the stairs which was full of spiders and just large enough for a young boy to sleep in.

The living room had a boarded-up fireplace, in front of which sat an, though it is unknown as to whether it was boarded-up before Vernon and Petunia moved in, or whether they boarded it up. The living room is also decorated in pastel colors: badges, salmon pinks, and peach.

The kitchen was filled with spotless modern top-of-the-range appliances, including a wide-screen television, which seemed to be mostly pink and white in color, and was described as being surgically clean. The dining room had a sizeable table just large enough to hold Dudley's many birthday presents.

The layout upstairs used to consist of Vernon and Petunia's room, a spare room, Dudley's room, and Dudley's other room (in addition to a bathroom of course).

The back garden was of moderate, if not large, size but was extremely neat; the emerald-green grass was pristine and short. A large tree grew near the tidily-trimmed green hedge, and on certain summer days, the leaves would blow gently across the ground. grew in small plots on either side of the back door, and a small potted plant hung from a lantern by said entry.

A small wooden shed stood near the tree, right against the hedge, and was home to a rather large grey spider. They also had a moderately proportioned bench.

Harry lay asleep in his little cupboard under the stairs until his cousin Dudley awoke him with a loud thump and a mouthful of sawdust from the wood of the stairs. He sat there for a moment before he heard footsteps coming towards his door and the sound of his bitter aunt.

"Wake up Potter! Startup the breakfast! We have much to do today!"

"Alright, Aunt Petunia. I'll be out in a minute!"

"No Potter! Get up now! Don't dilly dally just come out and tend to the stove and coffee!"

"Yes, Aunt Petunia." Harry got up and came out of his cupboard under the stairs. He walked into the living space and immediately went to the stove to tend to the food.

Dudley suddenly made a huge fuss, after seeing the many birthday presents, currently sitting in the living room, "HOW MANY ARE THERE?"

"Thirty-six, counted them myself!", exclaims a proud yet timid Vernon.

"THIRTY-SIX?? BUT LAST YEAR I HAD THIRTY-SEVEN!!"

"Well, they are m-m-much bigger than a last-t year..."

"I DON'T CARE HOW BIG THEY ARE!"

"How about when we go to the zoo today, we buy you TWO new presents?! How does that sound pumpkin?", a very bittersweet Aunt Petunia intervenes.

"Yes, my boy. What a splendid idea! We can pick up your friend and take him with us too! How does that sound?" Vernon added cautiously.

Dudley triumphantly nods in spoiled success. Harry rolled his eyes at the commotion while continuing to make and serve breakfast. He prepared the rest of the bacon(ham), toast, and eggs while the coffee was brewing in the pot. He also poured some juice into Dudley's empty glass and filled up the water pitcher for the table.

*a few minutes later*

The contents are finally ready to be served as a very impatient Vernon and Petunia nag him about it.

Everyone but Harry got to serve themselves before Harry was left with a few scraps and pieces of the contents he had put out to eat.

A little while after breakfast, the group prepares to go to the zoo. Vernon warns Harry that if anything *funny* happens at the zoo, that Harry will be without meals for a week. Harry nods quickly at the request as the whole family gets into the car to leave.
