Ezra helped me with my luggage that I had kept in the locker rooms at the headquarters and we made our way to the helipad where a helicopter waited for us. It took us close to an hour to fly to his apartment in Washington D.C, once we got there the helicopter landed on the helipad and we took the elevator down to his penthouse.
"Wow, did you renovate or something?" I asked as I walked in his front door.
"Well," He grunted as he lugged my bags, "Fresh coat of paint and some rearranging." He was huffing and puffing so I turned around to see what the problem was.
"Oh my God, I'm so sorry." I almost laughed at the sight of Ezra struggling with all my luggage. I ran over to him to help with the bags.
"Let's take these to your room." Ezra suggested.
Yup, I have my own room in his penthouse. I may not live here or visit very often, but he has a room for me.
"I'll let you change your clothes, and then come and join me for dinner downstairs." He smiled leaning in the doorway.
"Ok." I smiled sweetly.
Ezra left my room and went to the kitchen to set up dinner. I unzipped my bag and picked out my pajamas and headed for the bathroom but my phone rang just before I could lock the door.
"Let me guess, mom?" I asked out loud as I walked towards my phone, I picked it up and I was right.
"Hey mom."
"Hi sweety, how are you?"
"I'm good mom, how are you and dad?"
"We're old sweety."
"Mom, you're not old, you're experienced. There's a difference."
"Thanks for boosting my self-esteem." I laughed to myself. "Now, your father and I wanted to know where your next mission is?"
I didn't speak for a second, I didn't want them to know that I was coming home, I was going to surprise them.
"It's in Denmark." I thought quickly.
"Oh, that's different." She commented.
"Yup. Mom I gotta go, I have to catch the plane."
"Oh, ok. Ok, I'll-" She stopped abruptly. I knew what she was going to say.
"See you soon?" I finished her sentence. " I love you mom." I spoke softly.
"I love you too baby." I heard her voice starting to break, she was about to cry but before I could hear that, she hung up.
I let out a long sigh and sat down on the bed. What am I going to do, I know that mom and dad miss me and that they want their daughter back. Their all alone. Maggie (my sister in law) and her daughter live too far from mom and dad so it's not like they meet each other often. "What am I going to do?" I said to myself and held my forehead. Even though I'll be going back home for this one mission, I'll still have to go back to headquarters and go to my next destination. Taking another deep breath I got up and went into the bathroom to wash my face.
I splashed my face with the cool water and washed my make up away. Taking the hand towel, I dried my face and tied my hair into a bun. I stared at myself in the mirror for a while, taking in all my features. I had my mom's eyes. Something my dad always told me. I smiled, thinking about him.
"Nads?" I heard Ezra call me from downstairs.
"Coming!" I replied.
I quickly slipped into my pajamas and headed down the curving glass staircase. I closed my eyes inhaling the smell of the dinner Ezra had prepared for us.
