We stood outside my parents house, before we rang the doorbell we waited for Ezra to hurry up and pay the taxi driver.
I looked around, I saw full grown trees, blooming flowers, beautiful sunshine. I loved it here in Toronto, the best part is that we lived in the suburbs of Toronto, so we got the best of both worlds.
"Ready?" I asked Lucy and Ezra, they nodded. I took a deep breath and rang the doorbell.
I could see a silhouette through the frosted glass of the door. It was a tiny frame so I'm guessing it was my mother.
The door opened to reveal my jovial mother. "NADIA!" I attacked her with a hug, she couldn't stop kissing my cheeks. And with no time being delayed I heard my father.
"Nadia?" He was in disbelief. "But I thought you were in Denmark?" He gave me a hug.
"I lied." I said smiling like a five year old.
"I'm so happy my little girl came home." he didn't let go of me.
"Ok, ok. It's my turn now." My mother said.
"I missed you guys so much." I said in mother's arms.
"I know sweety, we did too."
"We brought you flowers." Ezra handed me the bouquet and I presented it to my mother.
"They're beautiful, i'll put them in a vase." She took off into the kitchen.
"Come in." My father said hugging Lucy, and shaking Ezra's hand. He led them to the family room.
"So you are the famous Ezra." My dad said sitting down. "Nadia has said many great things about you."
"I'm sure she has." Ezra replies. "She has improved a lot over the course of three years. And I promise you that I take very good care of her, she's like the younger sister I've never had." Ezra said smiling at me.
"And Natasha and I thank you for that. You don't understand how worried we are for her." My dad looked at me worriedly. "Now, Lucy. Weren't you visiting your aunt in Washington?" He asked.
"Yes, actually I visited my aunt and then stayed overnight with Ezra and Nadia." She explained.
"Well, it's nice to see you best friends altogether again." My dad said.
"Cookies anyone?" My mother asked as she entered the family room from the kitchen. We could all smell the delicious baked goods and our mouths started to water. "I brought some tea as well." She added. As soon as she sat down next to dad I spoke up.
"Wasn't there something else you wanted to share Lucy." I said sipping my tea.
"Oh, of course." She smiled a little nervously. "Ezra and I, we're dating." she looked at my dad and my mother, waiting for a response. Their thoughts on her relationship with Ezra mattered because my parents were like her parents. Since her father passed away, she found a mother figure in my mom.
"That's great honey!" My mom gave Ezra and Lucy a hug.
"You both make such a great couple." my dad said smiling.
Lucy was extremely happy to hear that I could tell when she looked at me. I'm so happy for her, she deserves all the happiness in the world after her dad passed on.
"Now you," my dad said looking at me suspiciously. "you're on a mission aren't you?""Well, yes. But the criminal has said to have been situated here in Toronto." I explained.
"Well, it's better than being in Denmark and away from us." My mom said. "Now you three go upstairs and settle down." my mom shooed is up the stairs.
We all went and sat down on my bed and just rested. I decided to get up and look around my room, nothing had changed since I left. I was 18 when I left. Everything was still here. I found some yearbooks and old pictures of my friends and I.
"Oh my god! Nads, look at this!" Lucy said holding up a picture of my face covered in pie.
I burst out laughing remembering that day.
"What happened back then?" Ezra asked laughing.
"That my friend was a picture taken at Ella's 15th birthday. We were having a pie eating contest, and clearly as you can see, I won."
"Wow." he replied.
I turned around to dig through my dressers drawers and then I came across this one picture. I can't believe I still had it, I'd expected that I had burned it or something.
"Who's that?" Ezra asked handing me the yearbook.
"Oh, I guess I never told you about him." I said as I handed him the picture.
I quickly noticed the change in the tone of my voice, "If you don't want to talk about it then it's ok." He said putting his hand on my shoulder.
I looked over at Lucy, and she gave me a sympathetic look.
A took a deep breath and sat down on my bed, we were all sitting in a circle. "This is Evan Wilde. My ex boyfriend, we started dating when I was in grade 10 but when he turned 18 it was sorta illegal. But we still texted and went out on movie dates, sometimes kisses privately." I laughed guilty. "We were together until my senior year, the night I turned 18 he had a special gift planned out for me. After my party Lucy, Ella and Katie stayed over night for a sleepover. I know what you're thinking super childish."
"Just a bit." Ezra laughed.
"Well anyways, they told me that there was a surprise waiting for me downstairs. So I went downstairs and saw Evan suited up with a clean shave, my parents were standing next to him. He told me..."
