Necropolis

Summary: Elizabeth and Hawk goes to the necropolisc hoping to see the dead Meliodas just once more, but when he doesn't appear before them a thousand reasons as to why Runs through Elizabeth's head

Timeline: about a week after Meliodas was killed by Estarossa.

Elizabeth sat on the bedside next to Meliodas's still body as she let her hand move through his smooth golden hair.
She had cried all night, and had ended up falling asleep next to him, just as she used to. Although, now he didn't need to be tied up to be kept still.

Then, Elizabeth felt mama Hawk come to a stop.

"Elizabeth, we're here" Hawks voice sounded from the other room.
After Meliodas's death Elizabeth had been desperate and heartbroken.
Wanting to see his smile just once more she had set course for the city of the dead where she hoped to open the portal to the necropolis where she would hopefully reunite with Meliodas.

"Alright Hawk! Just...give me one moment" she called back and then looked back down at meliodas.
She let her hand wander from his hair to his cold cheek.
"Please be there, sir Meliodas"

After a wordless walk through the ghost town Elizabeth and Hawk now stood in the field, the field that had been filled with beautiful flowers the last time they'd been there, along with Ban, Diane, king and......meliodas.

The thought alone made tears well up in Elizabeth's eyes.
"Even.. even if I just catch a glimpse of him! It'll be enough!" She spoke, but her voice raised with every uttered word "I just need to see him again!"
It had been a whole week of heartache and pain since meliodas had been so brutally murdered, so now, hoping to see him again she had went to the city of the dead where she was killing to cross over to the necropolis.

"Elizabeth..." Hawk whimpered beside her. He wanted to see his friend as well, but it was more obvious than ever that Meliodas meant more to Elizabeth than he did to anyone else.

"Please!" Elizabeth sobbed and at that very moment flowers appeared just as they did in the past, and they created a vortex around Hawk and Elizabeth, making a startled Hawk latch onto Elizabeth.
Then when the flowers disappeared they found themselves in the necropolis.
Elizabeth looked around frantically, and when realization struck her, that they were truly in the necropolis, she set off in a sprint.

"H-hey Elizabeth wait for me!" Hawk was nearly left behind but he quickly sprinted after her and caught up.

"S-sir Meliodas are you here?!" Elizabeth called as more tears streamed down her cheeks.
"It's me! Elizabeth!"

"And I'm here too!" Hawk called, who now also had tears in her eyes.

"Please! Please sir Meliodas show yourself!" Elizabeth shouted. But the only thing they heard in return was Elizabeths voice echoing off the crystals.

Elizabeth and Hawk came to a slow stop and panted from having run around and shouted from the top of their lungs.
"Elizabeth...we've been looking for hours...I don't think..." Hawk trailed off as one of his tears hit the crystal below and he began sniffling.
"Why?..." he sniffled, asking himself more than anyone.

"It's possible for the living to see each other again but only if they're bound by strong emotions" Elizabeth muttered and Hawk looked up at her confused as she began to sob.
"That's... that's what sir Ban told me" she cried and tried to while her tears away. "It was how he reunited with lady Elaine here!" She stopped whipping her tears and instead looked up at the sky of the necropolis.
"Does that mean...mine and sir Meliodas's bond wasn't..." she trailed off, but she didn't need to say anymore either way.

Hawk understood what she was saying.
"Elizabeth...as much as I hate to say it I...I genuinely think...he did return your feelings" he sniffled.

"Then why... why isn't he here?" She cried, searching for answers that Hawk knew he couldn't give, so he just started quiet.

Minutes that felt like hours went by before they started moving. Elizabeth looked down at her hand that had begun to blow. She accepted that the time they had in the necropolis was up, she wouldn't find him even if she was allowed to stay. And why that was, was a question that would eat at her.

In the manga Elizabeth and Hawk actually did go to the necropolis to search for meliodas, and when she spoke to Zaratras she cried as she revealed that he wasn't there.
