Summary: what if Zaratras hadn't gone to the bar? What if Derieri and Monspeet hadn't confronted Elizabeth? How would Elizabeth Then react to seeing the man she love come back to life?

THIRD PERSON POV

It felt like years had gone by since that day. That day where it felt like Elizabeth lost everything.
Although it had only been a few days, her heart aches with loneliness as she sat on the edge of the bed now only occupied by the corpse of the man Elizabeth had so quickly come to love.
Simply looking at him brought tears back to Elizabeth's eyes.

Even if he didn't love her back it was fine. Elizabeth didn't need him to. She just needed to see his smiling face again. Just once more.
Just one more witty remark and a chuckle to go with it.
She just wanted him back to the way he used to be, and not a unmoving pale corpse, but she knew that was how he wound remain.
She couldn't bring the dead back to life.
Nobody could.
She had hoped that she had found the way to see his smile once again, and to say goodbye, so that is why, days before Elizabeth had gone to the necropolis.
But he hasn't shown himself.

Necropolis, the city of the dead, where loved ones could reunite as long as their bond was strong enough.
She had hoped she and Meliodas's were, but it would seem that wasn't the case.

She looked back down onto meliodas corpse, finally letting her tears flow freely.
She bent down and laid her head next to him and hugged him as well as she could in her position that he was in.
"I just wish...that you could come back to me" she sobbed, not caring if Hawk should hear it and worry about her.
Elizabeth laid there for minutes on end, wanting him to miraculously come back to her, but it was impossible. She knew it.

When some time had passed for Elizabeth to calm herself again she wiped her tears away and sat up on the bed again, sun looking down at Meliodas.
She let her have graze his cheek one last time, she was gonna leave the room and go plan and prepare for what they would perhaps find in the capital where they were headed.

But just before she stood up a ray of sunlight broke brought the thick forest they were passing and shined directly onto Meliodas's bed, illuminating him in light.
Elizabeth found herself staring, but then her eyes quickly widened when Meliodas twitched.

At first it was just his eyes that twitched, looking like they were irritated by the sunlight.
Next...he opened his eyes, looking directly into Elizabeth's.

Elizabeth continue to sit and stare, trying to convince herself that she was making it all up. That her sorrow and heartache was poisoning her mind and making her see hallucinations, but when he then grinned at her, showing her the smile she had wanted to see again, she didn't care.

"Meliodas!" She cried as she jumped on top of him, clearly knocking the wind out of him for a moment, but Elizabeth didn't seem to take notice of that as she held onto him as if he was her lifeline.

Meliodas was awestruck for just a moment before he realized exactly what had happened.
His memories of his death returned to him, and he gritted his teeth knowing that Elizabeth had been watching it all play out, but he put on a happy face, for her sake.
"I'm sorry I took so long, Elizabeth" he told her, finding his own voice rather raspy. But it made sense. After all he hasn't used it in a while.

"It's okay" Elizabeth sobbed, even harder now as she heard his voice.
It was like a dream.
A wonderful, almost unbelievable dream.
"It's okay" she repeated. "I'm just...I'm just so happy you were able to come back to me!"

Meliodas nodded against her and finally wrapped his arms around her body that continued to shake within every sob she made.
"No matter where I am, or what happens to me, I will always return back to your side" he repeated a phrase he remembered he had told her even she was still only a little kid, but naturally she didn't remember it.

She nodded against him, failing to get control of her crying.
But it was fine.
He understood.
So he just stroked her hair, not as smooth silk as he remembered it. Rather it was filtered.
Hadn't she been talking proper care of herself?
How long had he even been gone?
It was all questions that he wanted to ask, but not now.
He just kept holding her tight until he felt her crying begin to die down.

"How is this even possible?..." Elizabeth mumbled and meliodas almost flinched.
The reason did make sense, but it wasn't something he could tell Elizabeth about, and he had never needed to make an excuse for this before.
She had never seen him this way before...

"It must just be...some kind of miracle?"
It pained him, calling the curse that had utterly destroyed his life a miracle, but what else could he make Elizabeth believe? What else could he say to make this make sense?

"A...miracle?" Elizabeth raised her head to look into those eyes that she had missed more than she ever thought that she would, but she blinked, cutting off that connection, not wanting to be hypnotized by those beautiful green eyes until she understood how it was even possible for her to look into them again.
"But...I don't understand"

Meliodas finally made a move to say up straight, leaning his back against the backboard of the bed, still holding Elizabeth close to him as he did so.
"Yes" he just nodded, still smiling.

Although Elizabeth was beyond happy, there was something strange going on with Meliodas.
Wouldn't one who was just brought back to life be in shock, asking more questions than he was?
He was so calm, as if it didn't face him.
"Sir meliodas, forgive me but..." Eli trailed off.

"Yeah, Elizabeth?"

Elizabeth then shook her head.
"No, never mind"
She was sure she was reading too much into it. Perhaps he was in shock. Perhaps that was why he was so quiet, because his revival just hadn't sunken in yet.
She had to give him times to come to terms with what had happened.
She was determined to do that as she burried her face in his chest once life and felt him nod.

"Okay" he said so gently that she almost didn't get him, but as he began to run his fingers through her hair, slowly and painlessly untangling it, she knew that everything was going to be alright.
