Summary: how did Elizabeth find out she was adopted? And what happened afterwards?

Time line: Elizabeth is around 5 years old, so it's 1 year before the sins were driven out of the kingdom.

Third person POV-

"I wonder where they are?...heyyy come out come out wherever you are" a cheery and bubbly 5 year old Elizabeth called out in a whisper shout to her sister whom she was playing hide and seek with.
Elizabeth turned a corner and saw a couple of knights, presumably on their lunch break.

Elizabeth, always the kind spoil was scout to go over and say hi, but then she overheard something she shouldn't have.

"Yeah, it's true, Elizabeth is from Danafol, the Kingdom that was completely destroyed 5 years ago!" One if the knights excitedly told his comrades.

"How tragic... do you think her real family was killed then?"

"Yeah most likely, after all I only know of two people who made it out of there alive, and one of them haired to be our very own princess"

"But should she really be our princess then? I mean... she doesn't belong to the royal fami-"

"Hey watch your mouth Magnus, the fact that the princess is adopted should not make us think less of her!"

That did it. Elizabeth had heard enough.

The princess who had just moments before ran around the castle giggling now ran with tears streaming down her face.
Where was she going? Even she duct knit, she just needed to get away just for a little bit.
She wanted to hide, make sure she either be found.

And that's what she did.
She pulled on a door leading to a big storage room, and in there she went, sitting between dusty old furniture and old family paintings that she refused to look at.
And there she sat, with her knees up to her chest sobbing her tiny heart out.

But soon all that crying made her tired, and she fell asleep right there on the floor of the storage room.

"Beth...e...izabeth...Elizabeth!!" The faint voices that had woken Elizabeth up became louder and louder, but now, fully awake she remembered why she was hiding in the first place, and that she did not want to be found, so she curled up behind a new piece of furniture and began crying one again.

"Leave me alone" Elizabeth whimpered as she sobbed, and as if on cue the door was swung open which startled her and let her make a shrieking sound.
She quickly clapped her hands over her mouth, unfortunately though her crying could still be heard.

"Oh thank goodness Elizabeth..."

That voice!
Suddenly Elizabeth had forgotten about not wanting to be find. Note she just wanted to be comforted by her favorite knight in the whole world.

"Meli!" Elizabeth crier and darted our from between the many furniture pieces and ran directly into Meliodas's chest, which she could because he had crouched down to welcome her into his arms.

"Ellie.." He used her nickname now that he could see that she was crying.
"You made us all so worried... why did you hide?" Meliodas asked and pulled her away slightly so that he could try and wipe away her ever flowing tears.

"M-Meli..I don't wanna be here" Elizabeth cried.

"Okay" meliodas nodded, misunderstanding her. "Then lets go back to your father shall w-"

"NO" Elizabeth cries, now hysterically, almost like she was terrified of the idea. And that worried Meliodas.

"Okay okay easy...Ellie it's okay" meliodas saud and brought the notes hysterical Elizabeth into a warm and safe embrace.

"I-..I d-...I don't belong here! They don't love me!!" Elizabeth cried, not as hysterically anymore but definitely still very upset.
"I'm adopted so I- I shouldn't even be here! Here with them! Veronica and Margaret aren't even my sisters, and dad isn't even my real dad!!"

"Oh Ellie..." meliodas finally understood, but what he didn't understand was how she had even found out. Both he and Baltra's had agreed to wait till she was 15.
"Ellie you are loved... and yes you are adopted but that means nothing"

"They don't love me!" She'd insisted, and meliodas didn't think it made sense at all, and he voiced that.

"Because you're adopted? Ellie that doesn't make sense, you are loved because you are adopted"

Elizabeth wanted to hear his reason behind that so she looked up at him abs asked, "because?"

"Yes, your dad, and your mom looked down at you when You were brought to them, and they thought 'this needs to be our daughter, because she's just amazing'"

"Mom too?"

"Yes Ellie your mom too, and your Dad, and your sisters, they were so happy to have a new baby sister, wether you were blood related or not, they love you, all of them, and might I also add that you've got tons of other people who love to too"

"Like you?" Elizabeth giggled at his last comment.

Meliodas was happy to see her smile again, so he kissed her in the forehead and answered "especially me"
Elizabeth giggled at Meliodas's expression of love. She was thankful to have him.
"Now, lets go to your dad...okay?" Meliodas asked a bit hesitantly, hoping she was okay enough to do it now.
She didn't say anything but nodded.

"Elizabeth! Oh my darling girl where did you run off to?!" Baltra bolted out of his chair and went to his knees in front of Elizabeth to hug her.
Elizabeth hesitated for a few seconds but then gladly hugged him back.
And then she began to sniffle.
"Elizabeth what's wrong?" Baltra's asked his daughter kindly.

"I..I find out I'm not your real daughter" Elizabeth explained, shocking Baltra. But Elizabeth wasn't done "I thought that meant that you didnt love me as much as You love Margaret and Veronica...but meliodas found me and told me that you do love me... you do right?"

"Oh Elizabeth..if course I love you, how could not? You might not be if my flesh and blood but no doubt, you are my precious daughter"

Elizabeth broke into tears right then and there. It was what she had wanted to hear. More so I'm fact.
Baltra kept in holding her, strokes her long hair and judging her, telling her it was okay, and repeating how much he loved her.

Meliodas smokes at the sight and believed that it was time that he left. He'd done what he should, the rest was up to Baltra.

When meliodas left the room he couldn't help but think that letting Baltra adopt Elizabeth was the best decision that he could've made.
