PART 1

She sped down the hallway as fast as she could. The same hallway that she had ran through over twenty years ago. Except this time there was no doll dragging behind her and there was no father waiting for her with open arms. Now she was dolless, fatherless, and running towards a patient who's heart had stopped and it is her responsible for making it start again. If she is unsuccessful in this, she will have to call time of death. There is nothing that can ruin a day like deciding when another human beings life is over.

Not that it would take a lot to ruin her day. Her day had been pretty much shit to start with. She was three weeks into her intern year and today was her first day working on the monsters service. The neuro god that everyone had been ecstatic to work with. He was well known for his surgical mastery, incredible good looks, and charming manners. Though, Meredith Grey couldn't imagine how or why anyone could possibly call his manners 'charming.' He was an asshole, plain and simple.

Derek Shepherd seemed to take great pleasure in yelling and berating anyone he could. And he did it so skillfully. He somehow could manage to hone in on the one thing his victim was insecure about and throw it in their face. And today, Meredith was lined up to be his victim.

"Where the hell have you been?" He bellowed while pressing the paddles to the patients chest.

"I got here as fast as I could." Meredith said while trying to catch her breath.

"Well your 'fast as you could' isn't good enough. You do realize that there is a man's life at stake here. Every second his heart isn't beating, it get's that much harder to start it up again." Derek spat. "So by taking your sweet time in getting here, you were killing my patient. Do you enjoy killing my patients?"

"No." Meredith breathed as she saw the monitor start beeping again.

"Well then, get here god damn faster." He huffed as he walked out of the room.

"He is an asshole." Cristina said .

"A huge mc-fucking-asshole." Meredith grunted.

"What exactly did he say to you?"

"He accused me of enjoying killing his patients."

"And?" Cristina asked.

"And what?"

"I mean, when Evil Spawn was on his service. Dr. Monster said that no one would ever love him, he was a worthless peace of trash, he hoped to god that he never procreated, and that Karev would probably end up on the streets addicted to heroin. He called Stevens a blonde bimbo piece of trailer trash. I don't even know how he found out that she grew up in a trailer. I don't know what he told O'malley but he was shaking like a leaf for hours after, and I am never telling anyone what he said to me. If you got away with just being accused of enjoying killing his patients, then you got off easy."

"Well, maybe you guys did something worse to get yelled at."

Cristina scoffed, "Alex got that after taking six minutes instead of five minutes to get his coffee."

"Hmmf. He is still a massive dick."

"Yea there is no question about that."

"Joe's tonight?"

"Definitely."

Meredith didn't know what to make of Dr. Monster apparently going easy on her. Maybe he was growing a soul or a conscience. Though that seems unlikely. It would be really nice if he would be a non-asshole for the rest of the week she was on his service. But most likely, he was just waiting for the next time she did something slightly inconvenient to mentally destroy her. She laughed a bit to herself at that, there was no way that Dr. Monster could come up with anything worse than what her mother already said to her on a regular basis. If he wants to call her worthless and unworthy of a medical career, he can go right ahead because she has heard it a thousand times throughout her life. He would have to become significantly more creative if he wanted her to move an ounce.
