Meredith entered the intern locker room the next morning to get ready for the next day on Dr. Shepherds service. She grabbed some clean scrubs and started to get changed.

"He let her hold the retractor during the whole surgery?" Someone in the distance whispered.

"The whole time. And they talked to each other. And laughed." Another person confirmed.

"I didn't know Dr. Monster could laugh." The first person stated.

"Maybe he is sick. Or has some sort of brain injury that makes him be nice to people."

"Well if that's the case, I hope the brain injury stays until I am on his service." Another laughed.

Meredith slammed her locker door and left the room. How could these people be so rude? Derek hadn't said anything rude to anyone for months. And before that he was just going through a hard time. He is still a person who doesn't need a freaking brain injury to laugh. If they had bothered to get to know him instead of being presumptuous assholes, they would know that Derek was actually incredibly sweet, and funny. He had been betrayed by his wife and best friend and that affected him poorly but now he was becoming a great loving father and they have absolutely no right to talk about him like that.

Derek finished scrubbing and exited the scrub room. He had been on call the previous night and had been called in for an emergency craniotomy. It was a little touch and go but the patient had survived and now all there was to do was wait for them to wake up. He walked to the nurses station and asked for the chart of the next patient he had to operate on.

"Have you heard about Dr. Monster?" He heard a resident that was turned away from him say.

"No, what happened. Did he make another intern cry?" Someone asked.

"He let Grey hold the retractor for a hemispherectomy. And apparently, someone saw him laughing with her." They responded.

"No way. Dr. Monster laughed. In public. And not at someone else's pain?" They asked.

"Yup."

"You think he is trying to get into Grey's pants or something?" They asked.

"I doubt it. I mean Dr. Monster is- well- a monster. But he is also gorgeous. He could do way better than Grey."

"Maybe they already slept together and she's really great in the sack and he is trying to get another go at her. She looks like she would give good head."

Derek's blood boiled. Sure, he deserved what they were saying. He had been an asshole to every person in this hospital, but Meredith. Meredith didn't deserve this. She had been the only person who asked him why he was being such a jerk. And she had told him about their child, she didn't have to let him be involved but she did. Meredith was kind, loving, smart, funny and beautiful.

Derek walked over to the gossiping residents, "That is quite enough." He announced.

The two residents looked up to him with fear in their eyes.

"Now I realize that I have said some unkind words in the past but you have absolutely no right or reason to be so disrespectful towards Dr. Grey. What she does in her personal time does not need to be discussed in this hospital, especially in such a vile way. Don't expect to see another neurosurgical case in the near future." He huffed and stormed off.

"Okay, he is definitely screwing her." One of them whispered.

"And she has him whipped."
