"So how did it go with the monster?" Cristina said as she joined Meredith waiting for the elevator.

"Um good. Weird. But good." She responded while nervously fidgeting with her hands.

"What do you mean by weird?"

"He was really.... Happy. Like super happy. Once I told him he didn't stop smiling. And he asked to go to the OB with me."

"You told him it was his right?" Cristina asked.

"Of course I did. He apparently really wants to be a father."

"he does?"

"Yea. He... he said he already loved the baby."

"That's.... odd"

"yea. Well I still can't believe it. Dr. Derek Shepherd is going to be the father of my baby."

"WHAT!" exclaimed a chorus of voices behind them. Meredith turned around to find her roommates, Izzie Stevens and George O'Malley, along with another fellow intern, Alex Karev, staring at her with wide eyes.

"Baby?" George asked.

Meredith gave a nervous look to Cristina begging for help.

"She's pregnant, get over it." Cristina said plainly.

"Dude, you're the pregnant intern." Alex laughed and gained a deathly glare from the three women in the proximity.

"But you were joking about Derek Shepherd being the father right. Cause he's a monster. He called me a blond bimbo piece of trailer trash. That's not the type of person you just sleep with. And definitely not have a kid with. He isn't the father right?" Izzie rambled nervously.

"He... he isn't a monster." Meredith said quickly and quietly.

"Meredith he said- he is a monster." George responded matching Meredith's quiet tone.

"Mer, he's a soulless bastard." Alex confirmed.

"He is not soulless. He was an ass. He knows he was an ass, but there is more to him. You don't know him, and has he yelled at any of you in the past month and a half?" Meredith snapped.

"No but. The things he said. That's not the type of man you want around your child." Izzie said gently.

"Trust me. If he does anything to hurt my baby, I will be the first to kick his sorry ass to the curb. But when I told him I was pregnant. He said it was amazing and wonderful and he asked to come with me to the OB. That's the type of man he is. I don't know him all that well, but in my mind he already is a great father."

"Meredith... are you? Are you in love with him?" George asked in a hurt tone.

"No I am not in love with him. I just don't think he is a monster. This conversation is over." She huffed and left the gathering. She immediately found herself in an empty on call room trying to catch her breath. What if he ended up being the monster everyone thought he was? What if this was just a show? What if he tries to take full custody and treats the kid like trash? Her mind was racing about the man she was now trapped with for the rest of her life. Her baby deserved a father and she wasn't going to take that away because she was scared. And he didn't seem like the type of man who could abandon his child. Meredith knew the type of man who abandons their children and she knew what it felt like to grown up with only one parent. She also knew that her own mother didn't give a damn if she had a father or not, and Meredith was not about to become her mother.
