There was a gentle knock at the door, and the Meredith appeared in his office. It had been about two days since he had seen her and he was extremely nervous to talk to her. He had no idea what was going on in her head. She had been nice in the bar when he told her his story but he had still been a horrible person to her friends and everyone else at the hospital. He would have completely understood if she never wanted him to be involved in their child's life. But that would just about kill him. Their child deserved a loving father, and he was going to do whatever he could to be that. Meredith had let him come to the OB with her. That had gone well, and now the picture of the small speck was in a frame on his desk.

"Um Derek?" She said as she stood at the door.

"Hi Meredith." He smiled, there was no sign that she was pregnant besides the light glow of her face. "Have a seat, please." Derek got up and pulled out the chair for her to sit in, "how are you feeling?"

"uh- good. Some light morning sickness. It's a little hard to find food that will stay in my stomach and my boobs are getting bigger-" She paused, realizing the awkwardness of what she said, and Derek resisted the urge to check what she said. "But besides that. I am good."

He gave a light smile. "I am happy to hear that. We should probably discuss some things."

"Yes we should. How um- how involved would you want to be?" She asked as she fidgeted with her hands.

"How involved would you let me be?" He asked solemnly, staring into her eyes.

"I don't really know. Would you want to come to more OB appointments?"

"Yes." He answered quickly. "I will go to any and all OB appointments you want me at."

"Ok," she breathed, "And when it comes to naming the baby, how would you like to do that?"

"I would assume we should both agree on a name. What about custody?" Derek asked nervously.

"I was thinking split. Half time with you, half with me. We are both busy so if we split child care, it probably will be easier. But I don't really like the idea of spending that much time away from blueberry-"

"Blueberry?" Derek asked with a small chuckle.

"Oh, yea, fetus is the size of a blueberry now so I started calling it that. Figured it was better than 'fetus' or 'bar baby"

"Definitely, I like blueberry."

"Next week it will be raspberry." She smiled brightly at him.

"So split time with blueberry. I would -uh- have to move."

"Why would you have to move?"

"I live in a trailer." He said quietly.

Meredith burst out laughing and Derek looked up curiously at her.

"You called Izzie trailer trash! You live in a trailer and you called her trailer trash."

He laughed lightly. "Apparently I am not just an asshole, I am a hypocritical asshole."

"But you're done with that right? You are done being an asshole?"

"Meredith. I promise I am done. I was confused and lonely and hurting. I know that isn't a good excuse but I will be better. So much better, I need to be for our child."

"Ok. I believe you. Just. Please stay better."

"I will." Derek said determinedly.

"And I have been wondering for a while now, how did you know Izzie grew up in a trailer?"

Derek's face reddened as guilt seeped in. He had absolutely no idea Izzie grew up in a trailer. No wonder the intern hated him so much. He shook his head and said, "I didn't."

"Oh. That's a fun coincidence. We all- you always seemed to say something very specific that we had no idea how you knew about."

"I- probably should apologize to a few people for that. I seem to have a talent for berating people."

"Yea you should probably apologize to a lot of people for that. And as for the living situation. My roommates are probably going to kill me because of this but I have a room. It's not a great room, it's in my attic but we could fix it up, and you could stay there. And with the baby coming I will probably kick my roommates out anyways, so if you want... you could move into my house." Meredith rambled.

"Seriously?" Derek asked with wide eyes.

"Never mind, it was a stupid idea, you obviously wouldn't want to live with an intern."

"No I mean, I would. If you- if the offer still stands. I would love to -erm- live with you. It would be best for the baby anyways, to live with both parents."

"Yea." She said quietly, unsure what they were doing.

"Yea."

"So um come over tonight and I can show you around. I don't know when you want to move in but I think the prep stuff would be good to do sooner than later." She said nervously. "And the sooner you move in the sooner you can scare off George so we can start the nursery." She laughed lightly.

"Oh. O'Malley. Yea I can't imagine he wants to live with me."

"No. He- you sorta really did a number on him. He won't tell me what you said."

"I don't even remember what I said. Something awful I'm sure."

They sat in silence for a few seconds until her pager went off. Meredith got up and said, "So... see you tonight. I-" she grabbed a pen and paper and wrote down her address. "I'm off at five so any time after that, drop by."

"Ok." He said as she slipped out of the office. He was going to miss his trailer and his land but he couldn't help but be excited at the idea of living with Meredith.
