Chapter Twelve
“Your proposal was so cute, Sammi is one lucky lady,” Marina greeted as she sat beside me at the bar. “Seriously though, how long did it take you to plan all of that?”
“I had it planned since the beginning, I mean, I knew her favourite song and I knew what her favourite things were, it were a no-brainer really,” I shrugged like it wasn’t a problem. I loved Sammi with all my heart and I wanted her to have something to remember for the rest of her life – not some crappy down on one knee in a restaurant, that was way too cliché.
“Screw it, marry me instead?” She joked as she nudged me in the arm. I laughed, knowing she was joking and saw her get back up, “well I just wanted to tell you that, see you down in town unless you have something planned at dinner again,” she laughed as she walked away. I waved in goodbye and turned back to the barman.
“How do you have women all sussed out?” He asked as he leant forward as though we were speaking in whispers.
“What do you mean buddy?”
“Since you proposed on stage the other day, all the girls have been all over you, listening to everything you say and ‘awing’ and ‘cooing’. I want some dude!”
“My mates back home ask me all the time, and if I’m being honest I don’t have a clue, I must just have this magic touch or something,” I told him honestly.
“Well, I don’t know what you’re doing with one woman then if you can have any here,” he spoke before going to the end of the bar and serving someone.
I drunk the rest of my lager before going to the entertainment area and helping to set out the chairs, it were my turn tonight. I don’t see why they can’t just hire some more people, because all I want to do now is go upstairs to Sammi and ravish her for the next twenty minutes, I do not want to be un-stacking chairs.
Finally, I trudged upstairs to our apartment and unlocked the door. “Sammi? You still here?” I shouted throughout the rooms. My eyes found a note on the coffee table telling me that she was downstairs with Marina and that I had to get my ‘sexy’ ass back down there fast.
I was still laughing at her pervert thoughts as I got out the shower, wrapping a towel around my waist and going into the bedroom and to my surprise lay a very kinky outfit that just made me want to go all caveman style on her and drag her back here instead of going out tonight.
Changing into a black shirt and dark blue denim jeans, I started to put on my aftershave when loud knocking echoed throughout the room. I rushed to the door fast and opened it to a dishevelled looking Jimmy. “What’s with the loud knocking?” I questioned as I took him in further.
His face was bright red and around his eyes were tears, that had only just been watered, he was breathing heavily like he had just ran here and he looked like he was about to pass out. Grabbing hold of him, I tried to pull him inside to see what was wrong but he held onto the door frame. “No, Kyle, you need to come with me – fast.” He ordered.
“Why? What’s wrong?” I asked as I locked my door. Worry was starting to take over me slowly and I never got worried or scared - which made the situation worse.
“We haven’t got time,” he panted as he carried on forward.
Anger started to take over as the worry started to seep in more, so I grabbed hold of him and slammed his body against the wall. “I won’t ask again Jimmy, what’s wrong?” I demanded.
“It’s…It’s Sammi…some….something’s wrong,” he mumbled, but all he had to say was Sammi and I had let go of him.
“What do you mean?”
“I can’t explain, just follow me and keep up.”
I wanted to do nothing more than to get him lean body and slam it back up against that wall, but the urgency in his voice told me not to think about it. It told me that I had to get to Sammi as quick as possible.
He led me out of the resort by about five minutes and as we rounded the corner, crowds of people surrounded something and my gut instinct told me that I wasn’t going to enjoy what the masses of people were hiding.
Jimmy pushed through them all and we soon came to the most horrifying sight I have ever seen – there lying in a pool of her own blood was the lover of my life.
I dropped to my knees and put her head in my lap, “Sammi, you’re gonna be okay, just keep awake,” I begged her as I noticed the two gunshot wounds in her stomach, one looked like it had pierced her left lung and the other looked like it had been shot right through her uterus.
“Kyle?” She whispered as her brown eyes met mine. “Kyle, I love you,” she told me and I smiled through the tears.
“I love you too Sammi, now keep awake for me,” I ordered her in a soft voice. I turned my head around to the crowd, “where’s the ambulance?” I yelled which only made the crowd take a few steps backwards.
A resident at the hotel stepped forward and bent down to my level, “the emergency services were called just after we found her, they should be here any minute,” he told me as he kept a strong grip on my shoulder.
I nodded my head in thanks before looking back down at her, “Sammi come on, stay awake, you know I won’t be able to live without you, we’re gonna have kids when were older, we’ll have a boy and a girl, the girl that will be grounded until she’s at least forty mind you,” I joked. “Just keep your eyes open until the paramedics come, then they’ll save you,” I pleaded with her as the tears just kept flowing.
“Kyle…I…Can’t…It…Hurts,” she spoke between long breaths. Her stomach was rising and falling slower and slower.
“I know flower, just trust me, they won’t be long now,” I told her as I bent forward and captured her lips in mine softly. “If you stay awake for me, they’ll be plenty more of those.”
A small, weak smile fell on her lips, which made me smile, she’s going to survive – no she has to survive, she has her whole life ahead of her, she doesn’t deserve to die now, she’s not old enough!
The whirling of the ambulance entered my earshot and I smiled happily, she’s going to be okay, I just know it!
But just as they stopped I saw the light in her eyes go and everything after that went in slow motion as they pulled me up away from her and carried her onto a stretcher before placing her into the back of the van, but I already knew she was gone and I felt too numb to do anything but stand there and watch in horror.
Hey!
I was gonna add the smiley face, but I think it’s kinda inappropriate. Anyway, so is she dead or not? Hmmm…you’ll find out in the next chapter!
Hope you enjoyed!
