Chapter Eleven
"Hey," I greeted the bartender as I made my way around the resort. He waved back and went straight to serving the hoardes of people that surrounded the bar. It was half three in the afternoon and most people had just woken up from last night. Not that I blame them, last night was pretty awesome.
The whole resort nearly made their way down to the nightclubs in the centre and to say I was legless is an understatement. Today Sammi and I were officially starting work and my hangover is just starting to wear off thankfully because I don't take hangovers very well. I don't care if Sammi thinks I'm 'over-exaggerating', she just says that because she doesn't get them.
"Kyle?" Someone shouts at me from across the pool so I make my way over.
"Yeah?"
"I didn't know you worked here," the girl who I vaguely remember from last night spoke. I think she was the one with the green dress on, not that I cared, I mean I have Sammi and she kept most of my attention last night.
"Yeah, I'm here for the next couple of months," I replied.
"I bet it's a well good job, getting to be on holiday all year round," she commented while her eyes looked me over like I was some meat. I should just keep my mouth shut about my work, can she not see from my uniform that I work here? What's with all the questions?
I shrugged my shoulders, "I get to be with my girlfriend all year round, but I miss my family at home," I told her truthfully, adding the girlfriend part in there secretly.
"Your girlfriend works here as well?" She asked shocked and I nodded my head.
"Yeah, First Choice are pretty good with us at that. They let us go together everywhere," I told her honestly. We were both surprised when we asked them, we thought they would split us up on purpose, not like we had reason to think that, my boss Helen had been nothing but nice, but we both had bad feelings about it and now here we are two years later all happy and touring Europe and North Africa together. I couldn't be happier.
I said goodbye to her and wandered into the reception area. "Hey Marilyn, have the flowers been delivered yet?" I asked her.
She nodded her head, "yeah and they're gorgeous by the way," she gushed. "Are they staying here until later?" She asked, remembering the instructions I gave to her earlier.
I nodded my head, "yeah, if I put them in the apartment she'll see them and it will defeat the whole point of them," I laughed. "Has the other package arrived yet?"
She nodded her head, "yeah it has, I can't wait till this plays out, what time have you planned it all for again?" She asked.
I smiled, I couldn't wait either. "Half seven, before the main is delivered," I reminded her. "I'll see you later then." I waved before walking back outside. I was so glad they were delievered today, it has to happen tonight, everything is ready. All I need is Sammi on the stage at half seven as planned and everything should fall into place like I had planned.
*********
It was half six now and I was just getting ready in my apartment. “Hey flower,” I greeted her as I pulled on my black button-down shirt. My mother got it me for Christmas and it was from Burton, so I may as well get some use out of it.
I had doubts she would say no, in fact throughout the day, my mind kept going to the possibility of her saying no to me. But if it’s on stage, in front of people, she can’t actually say no can she? God, I hope not. It would actually kill me if she said no.
I’ve never been this scared before, like ever.
“Hey, where have you been all day?” She asked as she shimmed into a strapless Maxi dress.
Avoiding you so I wouldn’t blurt out my plans early. “I was just wandering around the place, how about you?” I shrugged. I grabbed my dark blue jeans from off the bed and pulled them on.
“Since I couldn’t find you, I wandered around with Marina and finding out what went down last night,” she chuckled whilst pulling on her sandals.
“Oh, sorry about not seeing you today, but at least I get to see you now,” I spoke before pushing her backwards on the bed and kissing her, my tongue sweeping along her bottom lip asking for entrance which she gladly gave.
It was seven when we pulled away from each other. She had a silly grin on her face that I hoped matched mine, I was so lucky to have this girl in my life.
We made our way down to the tables that were outside and around a small stage; it wasn’t large because it was only used for karaoke as most people only came to eat before hitting the nightclubs.
I sat her at the front so that I could pull her up to the stage as soon as I call her. The starter passed slowly, but I think that was because I was so scared and my mind was going around in circles, scared she would say no. I know she loves me, but what if she decides it’s going too fast? It’s going to be so awkward with us afterwards, having to work the next eight months…
I’d back out but everything is already planned, so I can’t, I’ll have to throw all my eggs into one basket and hope for the best.
Half seven came. “I’ll be two secs,” I told Sammi as I ran from the table and went backstage. I got the technicians to turn on Time of Your Life from Dirty Dancing on and grabbed the microphone. The dancers came on as well and I started to sing the song to her, keeping eye contact throughout. The dancers got off the stage and brought Sammi up to it from the front, she was grinning and blushing at the same time, hopefully not knowing what was happening. “And I owe it all to you…” I ended. The crowd of about a hundred and fifty cheered and clapped but all I cared about was Sammi.
Someone ran on with the flowers (pink and blue roses) and the Skunk teddy and I dropped to one knee, the engagement ring in my pocket. I placed the teddy on the flowers on the floor, “Samantha Bent, will you do the honour of marrying me?” I asked.
Small tears gathered in her eyes as her mouth made a small ‘O’ shape. No words coming out of her mouth, making me worried that she was going to say no and was just trying to find the right words to reject me with all these people stood around.
“Yes,” she whispered as I got up and wrapped her in my arms. This has got to be the most happiest moment of my life.
"I love you," I mumbled into her hair as I span her around.
"I love you more."
