Chapter Three

“Flower, come on, my mum will be nagging at me all day if we’re not on time, and you know how she is, ‘Kyle, don’t you care for your old mother?’ or ‘Kyle when you come up next? Will you be late this time?’” I mimicked, not even getting the slightest chuckle from Sammi, unlike I usually do.

Instead, she continued to take her time eating a bowl of cornflakes, which must be really soggy by now.

“Sam! Come on! You’re not even dressed and we need to be setting off soon” I told her, tired of her childish ways.

She looked up at me, “Do we have to go so early? My head’s still banging” she winced, putting her hand on her forehead, for emphasise.

I sighed heavily, “Do you not like my mum or something?” I asked her seriously. Since she met my family the first time, she’s always been reluctant to go; it’s the same routine every morning. Trying to get out of going, but I love my family and I really want them to get along, even if I don’t see why she shouldn’t like them.

“What! No! I love your mum!” she shouted looking at me shocked, her mouth wide open and her brown eyes wide with disbelief.

“Then why are you always like this when it comes to visiting my family? I try with your family” I pleaded with her; I just wanted her to tell me the real reason to her not wanting to visit my family.

I loved Sammi a lot, and if she ever went out of my life, I know that I will be lost. But I really want her to get on with my family, she and they are the most important people to me and I genuinely want them to get along. My family try with her, so why is she like this? I haven’t seen them properly in eight months, so I really want to go. Even if it is just to keep my mum’s mind at rest.

“So come on? What’s wrong with them?” I pushed, looking at her in disbelief. I thought she was better than this.

She huffed and averted her gaze from mine, “You’re sister Claudia hates me! And don’t say she doesn’t because I know she does!” she blurted out.

It was my turn to act shocked, “How?!”

“She always ignores me and makes snide comments about me trying to push you away from your family and whenever I pick up Ben, she scowls at me” she admitted, looking really uncomfortable. That must have been hard for her to admit.

I walked over to her and pulled her into my arms, “I’ll speak to her before she has the chance to say anything to you, I promise” I told her and kissed the top of her head, “Now come one, we need to get going” I stood up chuckling lightly and put the contents of the cereal in the bin.

As she strolled out of the kitchen, I slapped her ass playfully, gaining a dirty look, “You’ll pay for that one Harper!” she warned as she ran up the stairs, shaking her ass in the process.

After Sam got ready, we climbed into the car. It was about a half an hour drive up to Leeds, depending on the traffic. So we should arrive at about half eleven, just on time.

We talked about Spain, but now we were talking about Alana, “Why didn’t she come out last night?” she wondered aloud.

“She had uni work” I reminded her, that’s what we were told yesterday and it seemed like a good enough excuse.
