Chapter Twenty-Three
Kelsey's POV
It was the 23rd of July now and we had just touched down in Spain. The whole flight Kyle just stared into space and all I wanted to do was hug him and want to make the pain go away, because it was heart-breaking seeing him like this, but I knew that I would have stepped out of the boundary of being a 'friend' and I knew he didn't need to worry about me, he had enough on his plate.
I was only here as a good friend. I mean, before I offered to come, I had asked Calvin and Leon, but none of them were able to and that is why I had offered. I knew he needed to give evidence and I also knew that he would need someone for support because going through this alone would kill anybody.
I wouldn't have been able to do it.
If it was Kyle that had died, I probably wouldn't have left my room, no matter who begged me. I mean, I knew it had been nearly three years since we had split up, but my feelings for him have never dwindled. Kyle will always be THE one and as many dates I have been on, I always compared them to Kyle and that would then lead to me spending night alone in my bed.
Sure, there have been a few who I've dated for a while, but I could never put my whole body and soul into the relationship and like I did when I was with Kyle. He was just perfect for me and I know that I will never be with him again, so as much as it pains me, I will always be his friend, because at least I will be in his life again, unlike the past two years where we basically avoided each other when he visited his parents on leave.
"Kyle, we need to get off the plane now." I told him softly and he moved his head away from the window and unbuckled his seatbelt.
We made our way through the airport and soon we were in a taxi, taking us to our hotel. We were staying in the same room, but with two single beds. It was also about a fifteen minute drive from the court room, the closest one that had rooms spare, seeing as it was July and the kids would have finished school now.
When I checked us into the hotel and got our room number - 702 - I couldn't help but let the proud smile slip onto my face, I had never been abroad on my own before, never booked a holiday before, so all this was new to me and yet here I am doing it all like I've done it hundreds of times.
We got the lift up to the seventh floor where we were staying and I pressed the key into the door, giving him a small smile before practically running it to just rest my feet, but instead of laying on a single bed, smack bang in the middle was a double bed. I frowned before going to the door to double check we were in the right room, which we were.
Kyle, who hadn't said anything just dropped his bag on the ground with a thud and glared at me. "What is this?"
My mouth popped open, "If I knew an answer to that, I'd tell you. But I requested two single beds." I told him. "I'll go downstairs and see what's happened." I suggested but he just shook his head.
"There's no point wasting your energy. We're both adults, we can share a bed together for three nights." He mumbled before kicking his bed closed to the bed and then laying down on top of it, his eyes closed.
It was when I looked at him then, when I really saw the wrinkles that creased his forehead and the huge bags under his eyes. I hadn't noticed them before, but he looked like he was under so much stress, it was horrible. Some people in this world just don't care about their consequences, and I hope the git that killed Sam gets life, because anything less isn't right.
