Today was New Years Eve and everyone was excited for 1995 to begin. The halls were filled with students ecstatic for the multiple parties to be held.
The Great Hall was packed with students and the feast was already tasting wonderful.
I was sitting and eating with my friend group, when I heard a 'boo' from behind me, making me jump.
"Y/n, we've got something fun to tell you." Fred exclaimed.
"Yeah, don't mean to steal you away from Pretty-Boy-Diggory (who was glaring at George's hand on your shoulder), but you've got to come with us." George said, pulling me up. As soon as we were out of sight, Fred began to speak.
"We're having a party, you see, for New Years. Only fifth, sixth, and seventh years are invited. It's mostly going to be Gryffindors, but since you're our dear old friend-"
"We thought we'd invite you and whoever else you wanted to bring. We were thinking mainly Steve, over there, and Pretty-Boy. But no pressure. Just thought you should know, hope to see you all tonight!" George explained.
I walked back to the group and explained to them what the boys had said.
"I'm definitely interested. Cedric?" I asked, turning to my boyfriend. Cedric nodded, trying to swallow a big bite of mashed potatoes.
"I'm totally in. It's Draco who'll be hard to convince. Although he doesn't admit it, I know he had loads of fun at the Hufflepuff Christmas Party. I'm sure I can get him to come to this one." Jenn explained.
"Oh, yeah. I'll be there." Steve said, after swallowing a large sip of soda.
"Fred and George warned me about one of their prank items. They've been going around like a flu. Everyone's getting a hold of these exploding sweets and such." Olivia chuckled.
"We'd better steer clear of those." Cedric smiled. "I don't want to be growing fur or claws out of my hands. Who knows what those twins have got up their sleeves."
Everyone nodded profusely.
"The Three Broomsticks after dinner anyone?" Jenn asked.
"Absolutely." Everyone agreed.
Two hours later, everyone met up at the Entrance Hall and walked down the chilly road to Hogsmeade.
Me, Cedric, Steve, Jenn, and Olivia all wore our Hufflepuff scarves and big jackets and boots to stay warm. By the time we got to the village it was already dark. I knew we could only spend about an hour there to get back in time for Fred and George's party.
Madam Rosmerta approached our table and took our orders. Everyone decided on a simple butterbeer and a couple slices of apple pie and we'd split the bill.
"So, the second task is in about two months, Ced. Have you figured out that egg clue?" Steve asked.
"Yeah. I think I did. A couple nights ago, in the prefects bathroom, I sat there for hours trying to think of something. Then, I put the egg in the water and it opened up and began to sing. I'm still trying to decipher the meaning of the words but I'm sure it's got something to do with the Lake. And I've still got almost two months to figure it out." Cedric explained.
I nodded.
"I don't know how you do it, Ced, participating in a thing like that." Steve chimed.
"Yeah, people die. The first task was already dangerous enough, what's the second going to be like?" Jenn mentioned.
"I don't know. Let's just hope I make it out alive, shall we?" Cedric laughed. I punched his shoulder and leaned into his neck.
"Don't joke about that, Ced, I get really worried for you." I mumbled.
