The new school year began and it wasn't the same without Jack.
Jack always had a party the night before school started and everyone would show up to school, talking about the previous nights party and the party that Jack was throwing that weekend.
The first week and a half of the school year was always great thanks to Jack, but now... the school seemed dull.
Matt and Rose headed to school together.
Matt met up with Alex and Harper at the school.
"Hey," Alex said said as Matt leaned against the locker next to hers.
"Hey," he said.
"Are you okay?"
"Could be worse," Matt shrugged.
"I miss Jack too," Matt said.
Matt took a deep breath.
"Where's Harper?" Matt asked.
"Oh, she's talking to Nelly," Alex said. "Are you doing anything tomorrow after school?"
"I've got basketball try - outs," Matt said. "The couch wants us to hold try outs as soon as possible."
"Oh," Alex said, disappointedly.
"Yeah," Matt said, equally disappointed. "I'm sorry."
"Hey, it's okay," Alex assured him.
"I really hope the new players are good," Matt said.
"I'm sure the new members will be fine," Alex said.
"I hope so," he sighed.
"Hey, Alex," Harper greeted her friend cheerfully as she walked over. "Matthew," she glared at Matt.
"Harper," Matt said. "Alright, I'm gonna meet up with the team... at least the ones who didn't graduate or transfer. Later."
"Bye."
Matt left Alex and Harper and met up with the remaining basketball team members.
The school day went by quick.
As soon as the day ended, Matt picked up Rose and the two headed home together. They picked up sandwiches at the Late Night Bite and headed back home.
Rose went up to her room and Matt went to the mechanic store to help in the store.
Like school, the mechanic store wasn't the same without Jack. The two always worked on cars together and always managed to help speed up the process of fixing up cars. They would even fix cars after the store closed just because they enjoyed it.
Matt took his father's sandwich to his office.
"How was school?" Harrison asked.
"Alright," Matt shrugged, placing the sandwich on the desk.
"Where's Rosie?" Harrison asked.
"She's up in her room," Matt informed his father. "Did you see Mom again today?"
"Yeah, she did," Harrison said, leaning forward on his desk and picked up his desk.
"What did she say?"
"She was asking about you and Rose again," Harrison said. "She wants to see you. She -"
"I don't want to see her," Matt said. "Not after what she did to us."
"I know, Matt," Harrison said. "But she really wants -"
"I don't care if she wants to see me," Matt interrupted. "She left us, Dad. Why should I see someone who abandoned us?"
