Chapter 20 - Crap, I See Jacob!
I opened my eye and glared at Dan who was grinning above me. I could have smacked him, but being the good girl I am, I didn't.
"What?" I croaked out, slapping the off button on my alarm clock due to the fact that it was buzzing like crazy.
"Day Two of Spending Time With Angie," Dan reminded me. "Don't tell me you forgot?" He faked hurt and I resisted the urge to throw my pillow at him.
"How could I?" I muttered and crawled out of bed. I shooed Dan away and changed into a plain T-shirt and shorts. I combed my hair and headed to the bathroom to finish up.
I went into the kitchen and saw Dan had laid out my breakfast for me. Though, he was nowhere in sight. I dismissively munched on the waffles and poured extra syrup.
When I finished, I washed the bowl and headed into the living room. Sure enough, he was sitting on the couch, watching the news. His expression was intent, something I rarely saw.
"What's up?" I asked, plopping down on the couch beside him.
He glanced at me and his intent expression disappeared. He smiled, returning to the Dan I knew. "Oh, noth - "
I glanced at the screen and felt a little of my breath catch. In big headlines, it read:
14 YEAR OLD GIRL RAPED BY HIGH SCHOOL SOPHOMORES
"I'm sorry," I started.
"It has nothing to do with me," he said, sounding slightly bitter. I sighed and he turned the T.V off. "C'mon, let's go. We're wasting time here."
"Wait," I said, grabbing his hand as he rose. He stared at me, looking slightly fazed and I flushed as I noticed how warm and solid his hand was. I could have held it all day and....God, what was I saying? I continued, "Before we leave, I have a question."
He locked gazes with me and nodded. "What is it?"
I let his hand go and the lump that had formed in my throat went away. "I've been meaning to ask you for a while. I was just kind of nervous and well....embarrassed."
His eyes slightly widened, and he leaned in, his eyes melting mine. "What is it?" he asked, his voice breathy and excited. He cleared it, pink staining his cheeks a little.
I fiddled with my thumbs. Why did he look so excited and thrilled? Why was he blushing? I opened my mouth and asked,
"How did you realize you were homosexual?"
He stared at me and abruptly rose. I stared at him, wondering what had happened. His expression was unreadable, his face dark and clouded over. "Damn you, Angie. Always getting me excited for no reason."
My jaw fell. "What did I do?! I only asked a question! And why are you excited?!"
He shook his head and when he looked at me, a sad half smile was on his face. "Let's go."
Bewildered, I followed him out the door. "You didn't answer my question," I protested, as we headed to the garage.
"Maybe I will, one day. Not now though."
"How come? I'm curious. Did you fall in love with a guy at your school?"
His face flushed. "I am not having this conversation with you. C'mon."
I sighed and hung my head, giving up. If he didn't wanna talk about it, I wouldn't force him. No matter how curious I was. Anyways, I'd find out eventually...
