Chapter 47 – It’s All About Tears And Smiles

Dan didn’t come to the apartment that night. I didn’t call him and ask, he didn’t call me to ask where I had gone. It slightly worried me but I decided that nothing too bad could have happened. Still.

I grew lonely the next day, being alone in the apartment without someone there. If I was being honest with myself, I just missed company. I hadn’t called Jo in awhile and I wondered what she was up to. Luckily, I didn’t stay bored too long.

There was a knock at the door and Conner showed up, looking uncomfortable as he stood in the doorframe. “Angelina,” he said. “You’re home.”

“Of course I am, where else would I be?” I squinted at him. “Why are you here?”

“I was wondering how you were doing. Isn’t Dan here?” He peered inside curiously, as if Dan would magically reappear.

I shook my head. “No.”

Conner gave me a funny look, as if he knew something had happened but didn’t press further. “Well, then, I guess I’ll just spend the day with you.”

I raised my eyebrows. “What about Miranda?”

“She said she was going out with a friend.” Conner furrowed his eyebrows.

“ Aren’t you gonna stalk her?”

“You know I don’t stalk her.”

“Yeah you do! You follow her everywhere, probably even to the bathroom.”

“I do not follow her to the bathroom – besides, it’s my job.”

“Your job is being a stalker?”

Conner gave me a long look. “This conversation is over.”

I cracked a smile and shook my head. “Alright Conner, let’s spend the day together. As long you don’t do anything perverted, Pervert Number Two.” I wagged my finger at him.

He sighed, an easy smile taking over his face. “I was starting to think nothing would be normal anymore,” he admitted. “After everything that’s happened...”

My smile slightly faltered and I rubbed my arm, keeping my eyes on the ground. “Don’t bring it up or else everything will be awkward again. Come on, let’s just go.”

“Is this really okay?” Conner asked, giving a sideways glance. “Are you sure?”

“Stop worrying! Conner, it’s not like I’m going on a date with you, jeez. Besides, Dan’s probably spending time with his friends.” I crossed my arms over my chest, twisting my mouth. “So annoying,” I muttered.

“What?”

“Nothing, not you.” I sighed. “What would you do if say...you liked Miranda...and you two were dating but then, Miranda’s ex boyfriend showed up, saying that he wanted her back?”

Conner tapped his chin. “Hypothetically?” he asked and I nodded. “Well, I’d be upset. I mean, who are you to say you want my woman back? I’d punch him.”

I covered my mouth in shock with both hands. “Conner!”

His cheeks turned red and he shrugged. “It’s the truth. I’m a bodyguard, Angelina, I’m supposed to be a violent person. How do you think I get rid of imposters and over obsessive fans?”
