Chapter 3 - Get Out Of The Bathroom!
After I had gotten over my embarrassment from Dan's earlier rejection (not that I had wanted him anyway), I unpacked all my things and rearranged my room to get my mind off things. Dan was busy blasting music from his room which suited us both fine. Besides, I liked the song that was playing.
I folded my T-shirt and tucked it away in my wardrobe. I was surprised such amazing furniture had been left behind, but I was very thankful as well.
I wonder what Dan and me will have for dinner, I thought and slightly turned red. I was a horrible cook, even my mom said so. She was worried I'd become a terrible housewife. Pshh, what did she know? I was good at other things that didn't involve using a stove.
I glanced at the digital clock by my bedside and saw it was 6:16. Dan and I had been here for two hours and we hadn't really talked to each other. I guess he figured I needed some time to grasp the fact that he was queer.
Why is such a beautiful, hot and sexy guy like him gay? Why not some nerd in the world? I shook my head, sighing. What did it matter? It's not like I'd fall in love with him.
Finally, after packing all my clothes away, it was 6:30. I opened my door and looked down the hallway which was dark but indicated it was nearly sunset.
I crept down the hallway and paused in front of Dan's room. Taking a deep breath, I raised my hand and knocked on his door. I waited but he didn't answer. I growled and knocked harder. No answer. I pounded on the door. "DAN!"
The music suddenly stopped and a moment later, the door flew open. I felt my breath grow ragged as I stared at his gorgeous face. I hadn't seen it for two hours and I was hyperventilating. Would I ever get used to him?
"What's up?" he asked, sounding slightly concerned. Dan? Concerned? Puh-leeze.
"It's dinner," I said flatly.
He smiled a half smile. "Oh, you can eat without me."
"What?" This took me by surprise. "You're not going to eat?"
"Nah, I'll skip. I'm not hungry anyways. Thanks for asking though."
I blinked. Did he really just say thanks? "Um...you're welcome." I turned around and walked down to the kitchen. I heard him shut his door but the music didn't blare on. Maybe he was tired of listening to music.
I opened the fridge and saw...it was empty. Crap! The people had left furniture but no food? With a groan, I headed to my room and picked up my duffel bag, stuffing my wallet inside. To the supermarket I went.
I wondered whether or not to tell Dan where I was going. He'll be in his room most of the time, I thought. I'll be back before he comes out.
I locked the front door, the key in my hand, and ran to the elevator which was just about to close. I dashed inside with a couple and the three of us headed to the lobby.
I was greeted by the woman behind the desk and she gave me a warning look. "Better not get any complaints from you two," she said.
"Sure..." I trailed off, unsure of her name.
"Sarah," she filled in. "I'll be seeing more of you, Angelina."
I smiled. She had remembered my name! Well, then again, I had been the loudest in the lobby earlier. "Alright Sarah. See you later."
"Where are you headed?" she asked. "And where's Dan?"
"I'm going to the supermarket. Dan's somewhere in his room." I shrugged and with a wave, I headed out into the warm air. What a nice summer evening, I thought, heading down the street. Dad and I had passed by a supermarket nearby on our way to the building. Hopefully I could find it without getting lost.
