Chapter 27 - I Can See The Whole Wide World!
The four of us claimed a table in the food court, four trays scrambled all over the small table. The smell of chicken wings was overwhelming and mouth watering, and every few minutes, I would wipe my mouth with a napkin in case there was anything on my face (drool, etc..)."You do realize we haven't started eating yet?" Dan asked me skeptically, raising an eyebrow.
Of all people, this creep was sitting in front of me. "Who's fault is that?" I shot back.
"Er, Miranda and Conner's?"
Okay, so it wasn't his fault, for once. It was just the two of us sitting at the table, while Conner tailed Miranda as she went to use the bathroom. This guy really needed to loosen up and take the bodyguard thing a little less seriously.
I grumbled in response. "Give me a break. I'm starving."
"Yeah, me too."
"No surprise there."
He tossed me an amused look. "One question."
I gave him a flat look. "No answers."
He ignored me anyways. "How come you make fun of me so much?"
"If I asked you the same thing, what would you say?" I threw back, smirking deviously.
He leaned back in his chair, smirking right back at me. "I'd say because you're incredibly adorable."
"Well, I'd say the same th - " I stopped myself just in time, my eyes widening as his words processed through my mind. ''What did you just say?"
He grinned cheekily. "Aw, you're too nice Angie. No one's told me that I'm adorable and it means so much coming from you."
I threw a couple fries at him and missed entirely; well, I never did say that I had good aim.
"Instead of wasting perfectly good fries, you could have came and fed them to me so I'd stop talking," he told me, his voice completely serious though amusement lit his eyes.
I glared at him. "Remind me why I agreed to come here, with you tagging along?"
"Because you love me?"
"God, no. You're going down, Dan." I made a pfft noise. "Perverts like you disgust me."
He pointed at me. "I bet you haven't interacted with a single guy before you met me."
I nearly choked; on absolutely nothing! "Was that a joke?!" I exclaimed.
He grinned, seeing that he'd found my weak spot: my past life with boys. "So, what, you were single all through high school?"
I clenched and unclenched my fist underneath the table. Of course I hadn't been single through high school; it was completely another reason. And it hadn't been that bad, but it didn't mean I wanted to share it with Dan!
"Of course not," I snapped.
"Then?"
"Nuh-uh, you're not getting a peep out of me." I crossed my arms stubbornly over my chest.
He tilted his head, pouting. "It can't be that bad," he insisted.
"It's not," I said bitterly, wishing he had a mute button.
"Then what's holding you back? If it helps, I won't laugh," he added sincerely.
I scowled, flushing. "I don't care if you laugh! I don't wanna talk about it. Jeez."
