Chapter 35 - Let's Party!

"I just had an amazing idea," Michael said, raising his eyebrows as he settled on the couch, like he owned the place. "Wanna hear it?"

"No," Dan said, shutting the front door behind him. "Make yourself at home, Jacob," he added to Jacob who stood awkwardly beside me.

"Come on," Michael insisted as Jacob and I sat down. "It's a really cool idea and you guys will love it."

"Let's hear it," I said, turning the T.V on and flicking absently through each channel. There was nothing good on nowadays. What happened to all those amazing cartoons, like Bugs Bunny and Mr. Bean?

"Let's have a party!"

"Not happening," Dan immediately said, disapproval coloring his tone. "There is no way you are going to bring a bunch of wild freaks into this apartment and get them drunk and - "

"Live a little, Dan," Michael interrupted, rolling his eyes. "What do you say Angelina? Jacob?"

I considered the idea. "Um. I don't know, it does sound fun but...." Dan had a point; parties could get really crazy and out of hand. But that's what my summer was about, right? Having fun? "We could minimize the amount of guests."

"Exactly! What do you say, Jacob?" Michael asked, smiling at him. I liked that Michael was friendly around Jacob, unlike Dan, who seemed to tease him every chance he got.

Jacob hesitated. "It could be risky," he said quietly. He opened to say more but suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Dan, nearest to the door, sighed and went to open it. When he did, there was a long silence and I peered to see who it was.

Unfortunately, it was Miranda and...Conner. Conner wasn't smiling as usual and he and Dan had a hard stare off, no friendliness in their eyes.

"Hi Dan," Miranda greeted him, throwing her arms around Dan tightly. Involuntarily, my eyes drifted to Michael to see what he had to say. To my dismay, Michael didn't look the slightest bit bothered, just thoroughly amused. Wasn't he jealous at all?

After Dan managed to pry off Miranda off, he smiled at her. "Hey," he said. "Why are you guys here?" He didn't dare meet Conner's eyes.

"We wanted to see if everything was okay," Miranda explained worriedly and her eyes drifted to Jacob, Michael and me. When she spotted Michael, she raised an eyebrow, half smiling. "Why hello," she said, discreetly patting her hair.

I gagged as Michael grinned at her. "Hey," he said flirtatiously, which seemed boosted Miranda's ego. Once again, I checked to see if Dan was jealous, but he was busy glaring at Conner.

Speaking of Conner...He spotted me, exhaled and stepped forward. "Angelina, I need to talk to you," he said, his voice completely serious.

My previous anger towards both boys returned and without warning, I took Jacob's hand in mine, gripping it tightly. "No, you don't."

Conner sighed. "Please, Angelina, it's important. It's about the party."

"That's exactly why I don't want to hear it."

"We're all friends here, guys," Michael said warningly, giving me a look. "No fighting, or arguing."

"Right," Miranda agreed, bringing herself closer to Michael. Ugh, why did everyone have to be here?

Conner sighed again, running his hand through his hair and Jacob gave my hand a gentle squeeze, which was more than assuring. I noticed that Dan had disappeared into the kitchen or whatever, and wondered what he was up to.
