Chapter 15 - This Is Awkward...

I woke up the next morning, bright and early....who am I kidding, it was dark and gloomy outside and it was was 11:30. My date with Jacob was at 12:30, so at least I had an hour to get ready.

I sighed as I headed to the bathroom and took a long shower (screw Dan!). When did my life get so crazy and messed up? I was dating a guy, and then kissing another....oh, this was just too much!

After my shower, I put a decent outfit on and headed to the kitchen where Dan was busy eating breakfast. He nodded at me, since his mouth was full, and I nodded back.

I made myself a casual bowl of cereal and stood up at the counter, staring down as I chewed thoughtfully. Dan didn't say anything and neither did I, because I had nothing to say.

"So, any clue where Jacob is taking you?" Dan finally asked, swallowing.

"No." I said it quickly and more forceful than I'd intended to. I continued chewing, and replayed the events of last evening through my head. His lips against mine....ugh! And I hated the fact that...that I'd actually kind of liked it!

"Okay." He said it slowly, stretching out the word. Pause, silence. "Any idea on when you'll be back?"

"No." Pause, silence.

"Is something wrong?"

"No." Long pause, uncomfortable silence. Was this awkward or what?

Dan let out an exasperated groan. "Jeez, is that all you can say? No this, no that! No, my ass!" I flinched and glared at him. He fought his grin and rolled his eyes. "Something is obviously wrong, Angie. You can't fool papa."

"Nothing's wrong!" I snapped, turning back to my cereal. "It's not like you'd understand anyways," I muttered.

"Maybe I will." His voice was right beside me now, low and authoritative. I turned around, and swallowed, holding his gaze. His eyebrows were furrowed in concern, all traces of mockery and amusement gone, replaced by worry. My eyes trailed to his lips and quickly darted away.

"I'm just nervous about the date," I lied, rubbing my arm.

"But it's only Jacob." He sounded doubtful, which reminded me of his sudden outburst that day about me dating Jacob.

"I can feel nervous Jacob," I said defensively.

"Because you like him?" Dan guessed childishly, raising an eyebrow.

"Yeah." Not really. "Isn't that how you'd feel around the girl...er, I mean boy you like?" I groaned. "I keep forgetting you're homosexual."

"Gotta problem with that?" he teased, smirking. "Angie, hun, is that why you keep resisting me? I told you before, I'll be able to cut you some slack..."

I glared at him, turning red. "Shut up! I'm not interested in you, Ugly!" I lifted my chin high, proudly. "I have Jacob."

I think I imagined his expression slightly dropping. "Right," he agreed, but his enthusiastic voice had dropped a notch.

I glanced at the clock. "What time do you have work?" I asked him. It was 11:57.

"Two to nine."

"How come you have different times every day?" I asked curiously.

"They haven't found an accurate schedule for me." He walked past me to the sink and washed his bowl. "When do you start your job?"

I grinned, remembering that I had gotten the job. "Tomorrow is my interview and I have to bring a resume," I told him. "Speaking of resume, I need to buy one...."
