Chapter 18 -Spending Time With Angie? (Part 1)

Just as I was about to rise from the sofa, there was a knock on the door, light and rhythmic. I paused, listening carefully, and it came again, this time a little more urgent.

I glanced at Dan, raising an eyebrow as if to mean, You expecting anyone?

He shrugged in reply, and stood. "Better not be Wendy," he said darkly, heading to the door where a third knock followed. He opened the door and I peered over my shoulder, surprised to see...oh boy, Miranda and Conner!

My previous embarrassment instantly returned and my face flushed as I ducked my head, trying to fight the wide grin and hysterical laughter coming my way. I bit my lip, replaying the scenes and the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to laugh and puke.

I took in Miranda and Conner's "appearance" just to confirm. Miranda's appearance clearly explained that the situation had happened(oh gross): her hair was disheveled, she was slightly sweating and shirt was on the wrong way.

Conner, on the other hand, looked natural and tidy. His hair was neat and parted to one side and his clothes were on right. But I happened to notice that two buttons were left unbuttoned, and wondered about that.

And here I thought they weren't supposed to date. My, my.

I stepped forward, coming behind Dan, biting my lip even harder.

Miranda raised an eyebrow at me. "Something funny?" she asked witheringly.

I coughed to hide my laughter and looked away. "Not at all." Oh, hell yeah, I thought.

Dan eyed Miranda. "Did you just wake up or something?" he asked, gesturing to her. "You look...." He trailed off, unsure of what to say and I was glad I wasn't the only one who saw this. Maybe Dan was thinking the same thing as me.

Conner and Miranda exchanged a glance; not a worried or panicked one, just a cautious one, as if they weren't sure they should keep their "activity at home" a secret.

"Just.....business," she finally said and I nearly started giggling. "Nothing important."

I smirked. "Business," I said, sneering. "Right."

Miranda narrowed her eyes at me, but luckily, Dan rushed on. "So, what brings you two down here? Did you need something?"

"Not really," Conner said, brushing his hair from his face, smiling. "We just wanted to invite you two to our party."

"Party?" me and Dan asked simultaneously in the same rhythm of confusion.

"For Miranda's newest movie," he explained, and I noticed his cheeks had gone slightly, just slightly red. I wondered why. "It's coming out in a month, but we decided to hold a party this weekend, before everything gets hectic."

"You can bring friends," Miranda added, although hastily. "The more the merrier."

She just wants attention and gifts, I thought sourly. "Can I bring my friend, Jo?" I asked.

"What part of 'friends' did you not understand?"

I gritted my teeth and opened my mouth, but Dan clamped his hand over it, pulling me aside. "Yes, you can, Angie," he answered for me, giving me a warning look. I tried to bite him.

"But don't bring your boyfriend," Conner said, smirking cynically. "Please."

I narrowed my eyes at him, but didn't respond, mostly because Dan was still holding me back. He released me and I inhaled and exhaled.
