Helen is sitting on my legs, my hands touch her body gently and my eyes have fallen into hers. The world around me is blurred; I'm focused on her. This is the first time I have looked at her face so closely. She has long, thick lashes - she wouldn't even need mascara -, light freckles on her nose, plump lips so naturally colored they just invite me to press mine on them. She is a really beautiful girl, I must admit.
I notice her gaze falling for a second on my lips, she immediately returns to pay attention to the world around us, as if she regretted having looked at me.
Jade glares at her when she puts her arm around my shoulders and runs a hand through my hair. She is drunk, so I know she does it without thinking.
She gives her a giggle and then she says to me, "Your hair is soft." She loosens her hair from her bun and it falls softly onto her shoulders, even her hair looks soft and smells of coconut. She takes off her jacket and gets up.
Oh fuck.
That dress hugs her curves in an incredible way. Those boots of hers make her look like a real model, even the way she walks despite the alcohol.
"Harry? What are you looking at, huh?" Evan tells me, looking in the same direction as me.
I immediately look away from Helen and lightning Evan with my eyes. "Shut the fuck up, Evan. Think of your little Jade."
Evan doesn't know what he's got himself into. That girl can't have fun with someone without starting to catch feelings.
Helen is back, but she has found a free seat next to her best friend.
I get up, annoyed by I don't know what, and I go up to the terrace. I rest my elbows on the railing and stare at the sky.
I wanted to continue my career as a basketball player. I fucking loved it. But now the only and the last thing I have left is the music.
Miss Williams asked me to play the chords of a song that Jade and Helen are working on on the guitar. I can't imagine myself in the same room for more than an hour with the people I should avoid the most. Why did I accept?
I'm sorry to have to hurt Jade by being so close to her and at the same time I'm afraid Helen will drive me crazy. We will never tolerate ourselves, especially if we are forced to do so. Tonight it was just because it happened, but I know that as soon as we both show our temper we will look each other in the eyes with the desire to kill each other, and not with the desire to drag ourselves to bed.
I couldn't say no to Williams' proposal; she has known me since I was little, she taught me everything I know about music. She would have been too upset if I refused. The fact is, however, that we start rehearsals on Monday.
I decide to go back downstairs after half an hour. In the corridor where the boys' rooms are located, I run into a couple, I don't even look at who they are. But then I stop and turn around to understand, I seem to know them...
Just like I thought, Helen and Daniel, a guy from this fraternity.
They make their way to a room, but before they can enter it I have already grabbed Helen by the wrist and pushed Daniel to the wall. "Daniel, she's drunk! You can't take her to bed in this state."
Helen tries to free herself from my grip, but in vain. "Harry, I do what I want!" she yells at me.
I send that maniac to fuck and start taking Helen downstairs with me, walking with long, fast strides.
"I can't keep up with you, maybe if you walked a little slower?" she asks me, and I slow down a bit.
"Where are your things?" I ask in a demanding tone.
She looks at me confused for a moment. "Hanging on the coat hanger, both jacket and bag. Why do you ask?"
I don't answer her. "I'll be right back, don't move from here, okay?" I order her.
Although with a puzzled and questioning look, she nods yes.
I try to do it as fast as possible when I go to get her stuff to avoid having to explain.
But I'm not that lucky.
"Where are you going with Helen's things?" Grace asks me. Fortunately Jade isn't around; she'll be with Evan who knows where.
I take a deep breath. "I'll take her home."
"Why?" she says immediately.
"Daniel wanted to fuck her, and it's better not since she doesn't think clearly," I explain briefly.
I have time to notice that she glances at Michael and then giggles. I don't understand what their problem is.
I find Helen exactly where I left her, with her back against the wall. "Where are we going?" she asks me when I take her hand and drag her out.
"Home," I reply dryly. "Where is your car?"
She shows me where it is and once we get in front of her black Nissan Versa I ask her to give me the keys. She does as I tell her, I open the door and get in the car. "I'll take you to your house, but you have to tell me where it is," I tell her after starting the car.
"No," she says right away.
I frown. "No?"
She shakes her head. "Jade is home with Evan, they sure will be... you understand, and if she sees me coming back with you she kills us both," she explains. "I live with her, I don't want problems, Harry."
I sigh. "Then let's go to mine. But you know the house is inhabited by four other males, okay?"
"Yes, I know, but for one night it doesn't matter."
There is a deafening silence in this car, if not for the low volume radio.
"You'll be there on Monday for rehearsal with Miss Williams, won't you?" she suddenly asks me.
"Sure."
She looks out the window thoughtfully, it has started raining. In this shitty country it always rains.
"Are you okay?" I ask her to break the silence.
She just nods. Oh well...
