"Is everyone ready?" The captain called. The guards muttered a 'yes'. Eugene sighed disappointed.
"Come on, let's try this again. Is everyone ready?" He said again.
"Yes!" They yelled in unison with their swords raised.
"Now that's what I wanted to hear!" He said. "Okay, let's go to Old Corona!"
The guards and the captain marched towards Varians lab. Once they got close, Eugene raised his hand to stop them.
"I'll go from here, you all wait. Only come in when there are signs of violence. Understood?" He quickly explained his plan he had made the day before again. All the guards nodded, or at least did something else that made clear they understood. The former thief turned around, his back facing them, and took off towards the house.
I'm probably overreacting, he will be just fine he though as he stepped on the front steps of Varian and Quirins house. Quirin himself was in the castle right now. No one had told him yet, because if it was nothing and Varian was fine, they had worried him for nothing.
The captain's hand hovered above the handle. He took a deep breath and wanted to push the door open, but instead, it opened for him. Eugene let out a tiny yell in surprise, but soon relieve washed over him.
"Goggles!" He exclaimed, taking a confused Varian in his arms. "I'm so glad you're okay!"
"Uh, E-eugene?" The alchemist choked. "I-I can't breath."
Finally, Eugene pulled back and wanted to say something else, but noticed a figure behind Varian. The captain didn't recognise her immediately, but after a few seconds he realised it was Faith, the princess's new lady in waiting. But he also noticed something else, she had an oddly familiar look in her eyes he hadn't seen before in them the few times they had met.
"Faith? What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be in the castle?" Eugene asked, but then connected the dots.
"Ooh, Varian, got your self a girl?" He asked with a smirk and eye brows raised as he elbowed him. The boy turned tomato red.
"W-what? N-no! She's just a great friend!" He stuttered. "But what are you doing here?"
The captain placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Are you coming with me towards the castle? Rapunzel asked if you wanted to stay there for a while, safety reasons. I'll explain on the way," he said as the two of them, with Faith a few steps behind, descended the front steps. "Faith can follow too, since she should be on duty right now."
"Ofcourse, my apologies, captain," the lady in waiting said while making a small bow. To Eugene's surprise, her voice sounded different and the words were spoken with- disgust? But he kept his thoughts to himself as they made their way towards the palace.

"Wait... so you actually sended guards?" The raven boy said to an older one as they entered the royal castle. The captain nodded.
"Anything for team awesome," he replied.
Meanwhile, Cassandra-in-disguise almost gagged. This was getting too cheesy.
"Uh, captain? I'm sorry to interrupt, but I should probably be heading towards the princess for my duties," she said while making a small bow. Eugene nodded.
