The blue haired girl paced around the destroyed castle. She had always felt like she could think best when she was moving. She decided to take a fresh breath of air and go outside. Perhaps that'll help her troubled mind.
So, plan to ask Rapunzel for help clearly failed. She thought, and I also haven't seen that stupid demon for a while now.
"I thought I might warn you. Back in Corona, they have created a weapon, project obsidian. Designed to destroy you."
That's what Zhan Tiri had said to her the last time they had met. Back then, Cassandra refused to believe it. Even now, she couldn't get the idea that Rapunzel, probably one of the most nicest person she had ever met, agreed to a weapon that was designed to destroy her.
She thought about right before she entered the princess her room. Rapunzel was singing a song. That isn't so unusual for her, but Cassandra didn't expect that it would be such a happy song. At the tower she got the impression Rapunzel missed her. But in her song it just felt like she didn't even care at all.
Cassandra sighed as she looked at the ruins of a place she once called home. But Rapunzel wasn't the one that destroyed Corona. She had done this. She was the one that did this to everyone.
But the girl was pulled out of her train of thoughts when she saw the outline of a body laying on the ground. At first she brushed it off as some rocks laying there, because of the dark, but then she saw their chest rising and falling. Thinking it was still someone that hadn't been found yet, she slowly approached it.
Cassandra crouched down next to it and slowly made the person face upwards so she could see their face. Her eyes went wide when she recognised who was laying unconscious beside her.
"Eugene..." she whispered.
Cassandra placed two fingers under his chin to check his pulse. His heart was beating, but too slow to be healthy. In the moonlight he looked very pale.
Cassandra started to panick when she felt his heartbeat drop even more. She placed her hands on his chest and started pumping, occasionally switching to mouth-to-mouth. After a few minutes she started to lose hope. But she wasn't giving up.
Finally, he opened his eyes and gasped. Cassandra pulled her hands away from him and sighed, "I swear to God, Fitzherbert, never do that again."
"W-what? Cassandra?" He asked, confused. He looked around, and noticed he was laying outside. It was night, so he could only see faint outlines of objects and Cassandra's glowing, though less glowing then he remembered, moonstone.
He opened his mouth to say something, but closed it again because his brain was still trying to process what happened.
"Where am I?" He finally managed to say.
"Corona," Cass said, breathing heavily,"Almost lost you there."
"W-what do you mean?"
"I mean you were almost dead," she said, "But then again, you're used to that."
He let out a quiet laugh and tried to push himself up, but let out a yelp when he felt a stinging pain in his leg on the exact same place that piece of metal had been.
"What is it?" Cassandra asked.
"My leg", he replied.
"Can I have a look at it?" She asked, surprisingly careful.
Eugene was hesitant, but then again she did save his life only a few minutes ago, so he nodded and rolled one pipe of his trousers up, hissing along the way.
She carefully touched the place that was all purple.
"Hmm," she sighed, "Do you know what happened? I don't think it happened during our fight."
"Uh, I woke up and there was this huge piece of metal laying there."
"You woke up?" She asked, "When?"
"I-it was still daytime," he said and pinched his temples, trying to remember, "And Varian was there. He told me he was looking for survivors and that I should head back to the Snuggly Duckling, that's where everyone's staying. I wasn't feeling well and I think I blacked out."
"He let you go alone?" She asked with her eyebrow raised. He nodded.
She sighed and stood up.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm gonna get some stuff for your leg. Stay here, I'll be right back", she said and turned to the castle.
"Cass", he called after her. She turned around, "Thank you."
The girl nodded and continued to walk towards the castle. She surpressed a smile. She never hated him. She never hated any of them. Rapunzel was a close call tho. She just wanted to be free, out in the nature. But Varian and Zhan Tiri put that on hold.
She quickly grabbed some stuff from the infirmary and headed back. He was still there, but had his eye closed and droplets of sweat dripped down his face.
Cassandra crouched down next to him and placed her hand on his forehead to check his temperature. Burning. She opened a box and layed a pack of ice on his head.
"This'll only hurt for a bit", she said as she played her hands on his leg.
"Wha- Aaaah!" He cried out in pain as Cassandra placed it back.
She chuckled as she put a bandage around it,"You scream like a little girl."
"I do not. I have one of the most graceful screams in existence", he replied. She only playfully rolled her eyes at that. After a few minutes she was done with his leg.
"How are you feeling?" She asked him.
"Other than the fact I almost died, I'm doing great. Yeah, definitely one of the best days of my life. How about you?"
She rolled her eyes again, a smirk plastered on her face,"Quit the sarcasm Fitzherbert. I also could've just let you die here."
He suddenly went extremely quiet. Too quiet for Eugene.
"Why did you save me?" He asked.
She sighed and pulled her knees to her chest, letting her head rest on an object behind her.
"Listen, I...," she started, "I'm genuinely sorry about what happened two days ago."
"What is the real reason you did it?" He asked, and turned his head to her, "Take the moonstone, I mean."
"I didn't really plan to do it," she said, "I've just... i don't know how to explain, always felt some kind of connection. That I was meant to do it. And if those papers from Varian were true..."
"You mean those papers about the black rocks?"
"They were about more than just the black rocks. You remember how Rapunzel's hair was acting so weird back then? Well, turns out the moonstone and sundrop were never supposed to touch."
"What happens when they do?"
"I don't know. Ask Varian. He's the smart one."
He let out a quiet laugh. They sat there for a while.
"You think you can walk?" She asked while turning her head to look at him. He wasn't sweating so much anymore.
"I don't know. Can try."
Cass stood up and placed her arm under Eugene's armpit to pull him up. He bit his lower lip as to not yell out in pain again.
"You alright?" Cassandra asked when she noticed.
"Yeah", he whispered.
They made their way towards the castle, Cassandra making sure to go slow enough as to not hurt him.
They sat down in one of the many rooms in the castle and chat there for a bit. Eventually she let him rest for a bit and left the room to catch some sleep as well.

Okay, personally I think this chapter is trash. Not particularly what happened, but the way I wrote it. I've done better
