The results came back the way everyone expected. Skeppy was Jackson's biological father.
Ruth broke down crying, even though she saw it coming. Skeppy walked out of the room for a minute alone.
Bad stayed with Garcia, feeling empathy towards her. It had to be a horrible feeling knowing your husband wasn't the father of your child. "I'm so sorry...but nothing really changes now, right? You can continue your life the same. Jackson can know the truth when he's older."
Jackson stood staring at them, not understanding what was happening. "Mommy? Why are you sad?"
Bad frowned and looked at the 5 year old. "Your mommy is okay, she's just a little sad...because" Bad didn't know how to put it. "Because she made a mistake."
"Mistake?" Jackson tilted his head.
"Yeah?" Bad hoped his words wouldn't be taken the wrong way.
"Are you calling my son a mistake?" Ruth sniffled.
"No! Oh gosh no! He's a blessing..." Bad wondered if those were the correct pronouns to be using. For now he used he/him for the child.
"No, you were right. He is, but I can't do anything about it now."
Bad gasped and covered the kid's ears. "He's not a mistake, you don't mean that. I just met him, and I can tell he's a miracle."
Ruth shrugged "I never wanted kids, and he's not an acception."
Bad didn't know what to say so he stopped talking.
Eventually Skeppy came back. "Fuck...this is stressful."
Bad offered him a hug, and he accepted it. "Let's step outside and talk about it." Bad didn't want the kid to hear their conversation.
Skeppy and Bad went outside the clinic, while Ruth stayed inside with the kid.
"Bad, I have a child..." Skeppy sounded understandably panicked.
"I know, I know...but nothing has to change." Bad promised him. "We can go home now."

Once they got home, Sam didn't need to ask what the results were. It was written all over their faces.
Skeppy went upstairs right away, and Bad went to Duckie's room. They stayed away from each other for the rest of the day. Not because they were mad at each other, they just wanted some space.
-
After a couple weeks, things returned to normal. Skeppy and Ruth agreed that for now, Skeppy wouldn't have anything to do with Jackson. Skeppy was completely fine with that agreement. He continued to live his life with Bad and Duckie.
-
Skeppy was waiting in the clinic with Duckie. Their personal doctor would usually handle Duckie's checkups, but he was gone on a business trip. One of his family members was sick, and he was helping them.
Bad assured Skeppy the doctors at the clinic would be just as good. Skeppy had to trust Bad, since he couldn't come. He had work to get done.
"Now buddy, don't start crying. I know dada isn't here, but that's okay. I can take care of you."
Duckie pouted, while playing with the teddy bear he brought. "dada..."
"He couldn't come, he's really busy." Skeppy ruffled Duckie's hair. "Daddy will be with you though."
Duckie turned around crawled into Skeppy's lap. "up, Daddy."
Skeppy laughed and let Duckie sit on his lap. "Do I look like a chair to you?"
