Demi's POV
We got back to the house about an hour ago and we started carving the pumpkins, but Mayla got bored and she's now running around the yard with the dogs and throwing their toys for them while Jay and I finish carving them on the patio.
"Thank you for coming with us today. I had fun." I say as I work on my pumpkin.
"Thank you for inviting me. I know it must be hard for you to have someone around Mayla. Especially a partner. It means a lot though." He replies and I smile.
"It is difficult. I don't want her to get attached to somebody that may not last. I know that sounds negative, but that's what I think about with her now." I tell him as I keep my eyes locked on the pumpkin instead of him.
"And that's a valid thought. Relationships don't always work out. I hope this one does though because I really do like you Dems." He says and I finally look over at him to see him already smiling at me.
"I really like you too." I reply softly and he smiles bigger as he leans in and kisses my cheek. "You know, I thought after we made things official you would kiss me on the lips." I then say and he chuckles and runs his fingers under my jaw before bringing me in for a soft kiss making me sigh happily.
"I just want to make sure you're comfortable. Especially with Mayla here." He says after we pull away and I feel my heart warm.
"And I appreciate that a lot, but you can kiss me." I respond and he smiles and nods.
"Note taken." He says and I smile as I drift my sight to Mayla to make sure she was okay, which she was. Once our pumpkins were done, we decided to order pizza for dinner because that's what Mayla wanted and it did sound pretty good. While we waited for the food, I put the tv on while Mayla stood in front of the coffee table and colored on her Disney coloring book. She really loves to color and it will keep her entertained for hours which is nice when I just want to sit down and relax. At one point, Jay sat on the floor next to her and colored with her when she handed him a crayon and I thought it was the cutest thing ever. My heart literally melted. When the pizza got here, we all ate in the kitchen and then I took Mayla upstairs to take a bath and get her ready for bed.
"Are you tired baby?" I ask her as I get her dressed in her pajamas and she shakes her head. Her rubbing her eyes and yawning though told me otherwise, so I ended up rocking her in my arms and singing to her to see if she would fall asleep a little earlier so Jay and I can have some alone time. Luckily, she fell right asleep in my arms after one song and I kissed her softly and whispered an 'I love you' before laying her down in her crib and walking out of the room. When I walked back downstairs with the baby monitor, I heard Jay on his phone speaking Dutch so I figured it was someone from back home. I gave him his privacy even if I didn't really have to because I had no idea what he was saying. I picked up the kitchen in the meantime and just as I was drying my hands after rinsing off the dishes, I saw him walk in.
"Sorry, that was my mom." He says and I smile and shake my head.
"No worries. Is she sad you're moving here?" I ask him as I dry my hands and he nods.
"Yeah. She's trying to hide it, but I can tell she's a little upset. I'm gonna go out there as much as I can though because I'm a big family person and I'll miss them all too." He says sitting on one of the stools behind the island and I smile sadly.
"That's how I am too. When I first came out to LA, it didn't take long for my whole family to move here also because we all missed each other. I can't imagine what it's like having an ocean between you though." I respond as I walk up to him and he smiles as he places a hand on my waist and pulls me to stand in between his legs.
