you woke up feeling fresher than you had in months. specifically, 6 months. for no reason, you kept trying to convince yourself, but you knew that that wasn't the case.
you only had to go through one more day, then the party, then you could go home. you wondered where all the optimism had gone from the day before yesterday. you felt so ready, excited, even.
now, after you thought about the (uncomfortably high) risk of schlatt being at that same mansion, you only felt a pit in the bottom of your stomach.
you had no idea why schlatt still had such an effect on you, even if it was negative. you were curious to know whether he had the same issues when his mind wandered to you. or if he even thought of you.
you had wanted to believe that you moved on and so did schlatt, but as you found yourself struggling harder and harder to forget him, you couldn't help but hope selfishly that he was having the same problems. it would give you some sense of satisfaction knowing you weren't the only one losing their god damn mind over a breakup.
patches' purring broke you out of your train of thoughts, thankfully. you looked down, smiling as the cat entwined her body between your legs. you leaned down to pet her, scratching the base of her tail and making kissing noises at her.
she padded out of your room, and you followed close behind. you hadn't changed out of your pajama's yet but you didn't really care, and you knew clay wouldn't either.
when the two of you reached the kitchen, you saw clay already sitting at the table with a plate of waffles that were untouched. syrup and butter were there, too.
"good morning," clay looked up at the sound of your voice, his eyes falling down your body, taking a peek at your attire.
"good morning. how'd you sleep? hopefully patches didn't lay on your chest or something," he grinned, gesturing for you to take a seat at the table next to him.
you did, settling in and not wasting time in eating your waffles. they were heavenly, but they tasted familiar.
"ihop?"
"what gave it away?" clay smirked.
"you don't have any ingredients in your fridge or pantry," you told him, and he laughed loudly.
"i slept fine, by the way. you've got some comfy beds here," that was more than the truth, sleeping on the bed was like sleeping on a cloud that descended just for you.
"im glad. i was thinking we can go to a mall or something today? might be fun," clay asked, meeting your eyes.
his eyes were very pretty, you hadn't taken the time to notice that before. they were a calm green, with a little bit of hazel on the inner part. his hair fell messily on his face, a few strands covering his eyes.
"that does sound fun. are we leaving soon? i have to shower and get ready."
"oh, take your time. im gonna get ready too," he smiled. you nodded and left the table, putting your dishes in the dishwasher before heading upstairs to change and whatnot.
—————
you two had spent most of the day at the mall, walking around and talking. clay bought a few things, and he carried your items as well, even when you insisted he didn't.
