Final bets! Final bets!
Two soldiers of the first army are fighting inside a tent big enough to fit all the sweaty greedy first armies but it shouldn't matter with what the soldiers and trackers alike are going through with their day near the Unsea.
"Senia you are not going to wish me good luck?" Mal looked at her grey eyes full of distaste and gave his shirt to his other friend, Mikhael.
Senia only sent him a glare that could probably tear the fold down to express her disdain to Mal for joining fights that she doesn't deem worth fighting for.
"Get in there Mal. Don't mind her." Dubrov playfully rolled his eyes at Senia and pat Mal's broad shoulders urging the boy to face his opponent.
Senia got out of the tent even before the fight started and stood beside it. The loud cheers giving her headaches that could last for months.
She clenched her hands in confusion when she thought she heard the loud pumping of their hearts as blood gushed in their veins due to all the excitement.
These men looks so deprived of happiness they would jump at the first sight of entertainment. Senia doesn't look so amazed. Who would be happy being next to that ominous and towering dark fold?
I could only wish for the saints to bless us with a miracle.
Minutes passed and someone draped their arm atop her lean shoulders.
"How much did you win?" Senia asked Mal not even an ounce of interest in her voice.
"I'm surprised you even believed that I would win." Mal showed a grin her way as they moved away from the now more quiet tent.
"What happened in there?" Senia asked curiously.
"Grisha showing off."
Senia could only groan beside her friend.
"I know! That would've been my reaction too if I wouldn't want to punch his face first." There's a glint of mischief in his eyes as he continued to look forward with Senia by his side.
Their green dusty uniforms clashing together, adding to the gloomy aura their camp emits.
"Why do you have to be so violent Oretsev?"
"I learned from the best."
"Oh, Alina would be proud to know you learned much from her." the two snorted that earned them unwanted attention from the people passing by.
"Well, speaking of-
"Alina!" Mal shouted and rushed over to Alina leaving Senia with a grin on her gleaming face.
"Mal! Senia! when did you guys get here?" Alina asked a bright smile adorning her face.
"Yesterday, everyone's getting their assignments. I found out cause they're putting our unit with yours again."
"Oh so the three of us are back together."
"Yes and Mal here couldn't be happier hearing that, he looks as if he could kiss the Sergeant right there."
Senia teased Mal that brought a sour look on the boy's face.
"Don't be like that Senia! You know Mal's a little shy." The two girls hooked their arms together and walked ahead of Mal.
"You guys are leaving me out on my own again!"
"Well, it'll be just like home." Alina said putting her head beside Senia's shoulders snuggling closer for warmth as they walked.
"Speaking of bullies, they moved the tents." Senia spoke with disdain in her voice.
Confusion written on Alina's face but it became clear to her when she saw a group of Grisha controlling the small science.
"Grisha wanted more space." Mal looked at the Inferni as flames shot out of her hands and towards their practice target.
"Good. Again, Inferni!"
"They're always picking on us when their general's not around."
"Just like I said, home." Alina sighed towards the two and watched back with amazement and curiosity in her eyes.
Senia walked ahead of the two when she felt like she was intruding on the two in continuing their tale for lovers.
She smiled at that thought. Why can't these two just confess to each other already?
"There they are!" Mikeal shouted as he and Dubrov run in their direction.
"Your little friend from Keramzin this is her?" Dubrov asked and Senia only sighed as Dubrov looked at her. "Oh wait, this one's short too!"
"Hilarious Dubrov, really." Senia replied and pry herself from their group to wander off the area.
She got away until the loud horns echoed signalling for the much-feared announcement.
-"so some of you will be assigned." Senia got inside the tent searching for her friends.
"There is nothing to fear. I will now be selecting the names for the 'nightmare lottery'."
When Senia heard Mal's words she smacked his back which earned a snigger from Alina and a few glares from behind them, which weren't really paid any attention from the three.
"For the supply run across the fold.
Sergeant Yure Teplov
Tracker Malyen Oretsev and Senia Redferne"
Shock and fear crossed all three of their faces.
"Did he... but you both are in our unit."
"It has to be an error."
"How can it be Mal? When both of our names are in there?"
"Loosen up Senia, if it does work you know we'll be able to visit Ketterdam." Mal tried to joke around but panic was written all over their faces.
As the meeting was dismissed, Mal and Senia lined up for their dinner away from the other unit.
"I'll go talk to the sergeant later, see if he made some error." Mal spoke hushed to Senia trying to calm the girl.
"If you do then they might just separate us. What then? You, go and I remain here with Alina? No Mal!"
The boy tracker only looked at Senia with a dejected face.
They both looked away as a commotion started in the line of the cartographers.
"They're at it again." Senia said as she saw the back of her friend, Alina, walking away from dinner.
