"What was that? You want to tell me?"
Inej asked, disappointment clear on her tone as Kaz hurriedly starts to look through his papers.
"Inej, maybe we should go out?" Senia tried to reason out with Inej to not piss off Kaz more than he already is but her words have gone through deaf ears.
"Be more specific." Kaz demanded not even looking away from what he's doing. Too bothered not to take the job they have begged Dreesen for.
"It was one thing when we had a week going across the fold. But sunrise?" Inej gave Kaz a puzzled look.
"We have to say no-" Hands clenched on her clothes Inej asked Kaz.
"No."
"No to the job?" Inej asked willing Kaz to look at her hopeful eyes.
"No to saying no." Kaz looked impatiently at Inej when his line of sight turned to Senia who was watching them both bicker with a frown on her lips and shaking her head to him.
"We can't go!". "Can't we?"
Inej showed her right wrist to Kaz where the symbol of the one thing tying her to this dreadful place lies on her smooth skin.
"You will. I have a plan."
"No, you don't"
Senia continued to listen on in their fight because she knows that there was no point in making them see that their fight is killing them inside with all the poison oozing off of their lips right now.
"...then maybe you stay here." Kaz blurted suddenly that caused a gasp to escape Senia's lips, tilting her head to the side with a narrowed frown.
He's being too much of an arse.
"Maybe I won't be here when you get back." Inej walked away from them and outside the raining roofs, the open window was left in her wake.
Senia and Kaz's constant shout of her name was not heard.
"Kaz... maybe Inej is right?" Senia talked some sense into Kaz.
"I need that kruge... for her to be able to get out of that wretched place." Kaz spoke strongly.
"Only for her?" Senia pushed when she noticed the jump in his pulse.
