CHAPTER FOURTY;
• SEARCHING FOR MADDIE •

"kai, you're not listening, breathe. in and out." el whispers, holding onto his cheeks.

"i-i'm trying." he chokes out.

"okay." she pulls him onto her chest, "listen to my heartbeat. in and out, that's it."

his breathing starts to even out slowly and she rubs his back comfortingly. "we're going to find her."

"how?"

"we know who they are, it won't take long for us to find their base. you know it." she whispers into his hair.

he nods as she kisses his head softly, "she's going to be alright. go lay down, get some rest and i'll take over."

"no, el-"

"kai. if we're going to fight, you need to rest." she cuts him off sternly.

he nods, "fine."

"okay, i'll wake you if something happens." she reassures him as he nods again, "thank you." he whispers.

"anything for you." she kisses his cheek before he walks out of his office. she follows behind him, watching him walk upstairs and to his room.

she takes a deep breath, walking to the living room where everyone else was.

"rob, any news?" she asks.

"we contacted other mafias we are in business with, we were informed where their old base was. it could be a lead but we're not sure if they actually are keeping maddie there." he tells her. "we have someone undercover there but they haven't confirmed anything-"

"then tell them to hurry the fuck up! they have maddie for a reason, can someone tell me why?"

"last time, they went nuts and we killed their men. we made them sign and let the don go." someone speaks up.

"so clearly they want out. what was the deal on?"

"we basically took over their company."

"okay, that means we have their resources. they must have put down where their base is so someone go find out!" she scolds as some people nod and run away.

"we're going to make them think we'll give the company back. rob, make up a contract of sort but add some stuff to it. when we find the base, we'll get maddie in return." she says.

rob nods, "i'm on it."

"okay, someone tell me when our person confirmed clearance. maddie is the only thing that matters." she states, "so if any of you screw this up, your ass is grass."

"yes ma'am." they all say in unison.

"good. now go. i want to leave by morning. once you find the base get blueprints." she informs as they nod before walking away, "mike, go home."

"i'm not leaving, el." he states.

"what, you're going to follow me to italy? go home, go to bed and then go to school tomorrow." she says. "go pick a random car from outside."
