Day Fourteen | Thursday | December 8th

"But they hurt him!" Roman yelled. As soon as he had seen the pairings Emile and Nemo had come up he had thousands of protests going through his head, causing him to jump out of his seat. "He went through hell when he was living with them! A-and they nearly killed the rest of us!"

"Remus and Janus are Virgil's parents-"

"Adoptive parents," Roman corrected with a bit of a growl. It was something Virgil was adamant about, and something Roman wanted to defend.

Emile sighed, "Remus and Janus are Virgil's adoptive parents," He said, correcting himself, "They've done bad things, terrible things. But they're doing their best to make amends. And even if they didn't show it the right way, they do care for Virgil."

"They-"

"I know what they did. It's in their file-"

"Is everything in their file?" Roman asked, almost yelling.

"Well, don't tell him I said this, but George takes very accurate and concise notes. It's pretty amazing." Emile said with a small shrug, "He's their therapist, a very good one too. But I paid them a few visits too."

"Why?"

Emile shrugged, "I wanted to learn more about my cousin, they raised him."

"They hurt him though!" Roman turned to the therapist, "They hurt him and you're excusing that."

"Sometimes you have to hurt the people you love." Roman froze at those words before backing away towards the door, "Is everything okay Roman? You look panicked."

Roman shook his head and narrowed his eyes at Emile, "I'm not dealing with this again," he muttered, "You can't hurt people just because you love them and think it's right. Th-that's not love."

Emile flinched slightly, "But, sometimes hurting people is your only option. Because if you don't hurt one person, other people get hurt."

Roman continued to shake his head, "I'm not listening to you. I've heard it all before and-and it's wrong and it took me forever to figure that out and I'm not putting myself back in that mindset." Roman hesitated before turning and heading out of the room, "I need to find Virgil. I need to talk him out of this."

Emile jumped to his feet, "No, Roman, wait. You don't understand-"

"I understand just fine Emile," Roman said, now making his way down the hall and towards the elevators, "Janus and Remus are manipulative and hurtful people. They've hurt Virgil, in so many ways. I'm not gonna let them hurt him again, he was just starting to heal too."

"But Roman-"

Roman shook his head as the elevator door opened and he boarded, but put an arm out to stop the doors from closing in front of him, "You heard their side. You never heard his or ours. You call yourself his cousin and a therapist but you're completely disregarding the effects this could have on his mental health." Roman pulled his arm back, letting the doors shut and watching Emile disappear. He sighed, trying to keep calm despite the anger, and to be honest, the fear he felt. How could anyone even suggest this? And more so, how could Virgil ever have agreed?

*****

Roman wasn't allowed to visit Virgil anymore.

Well, for the rest of the day anyway. Wren said it was because Virgil wanted to be alone, but Roman had a feeling there was more to it than that. He had a feeling that even if Virgil did want to see him, they wouldn't let him. But they couldn't keep him away from his true love, not now, not ever. But, there was also the chance that Virgil really did want to be alone, which was nothing bad except it might mean that he was probably going to spend the rest of the day spiraling.
