TW: Anxiety, Deceit, Mentions of (verbal) abuse.
Day Sixteen | Saturday | December 10th
"How very nice to see you again, Virgil," said the man with the yellow eye.
The words weren't a lie, even after a year Virgil could still differentiate when he was or wasn't telling the truth. "Hi," Virgil greeted somewhat awkwardly.
"I was hoping they wouldn't catch you," Janus told him, his hair was longer, Virgil noticed. He wasn't surprised, it had been a year and this wasn't exactly the nicest place in the world. However Virgil knew that they had a barber here, Wren had mentioned it, so what did surprise him was just how long his hair was, about eight or ten inches, and reaching down to just above his shoulders. His face was almost clean-shaven though, only a little bit of stubble growing, this again told Virgil that Janus was growing his hair out by choice. An interesting choice, he thought, Janus had never seemed like the long hair type of person.
Virgil shrugged, "We kinda made it easy for them. Four of us all under one roof, and then the Remy situation. You know they got him too right?" Janus nodded silently, and Virgil repeated the action, "Yeah, I don't think being your son helped much, pretty sure that had me on their radar from the beginning."
Janus frowned at that, "Well, we tried to warn you, didn't we?"
Virgil rolled his eyes, gaze turning into a glare, "You tried to warn me that my boyfriend and best friends were just using me. And that dating Roman was just gonna hurt me."
"And look how well that turned out," Janus snapped, "You're down here and I'm assuming they're up there," Janus nodded to the ceiling, " If they really cared they'd be trying harder to get you out."
"You know somehow I seriously doubt it's their fault I'm stuck in the villains' sector, Deceit." Virgil hissed lowly, "After all, it was you and Remus who forced me into the job when I was sixteen."
"We were preparing you for the real world."
"You were preparing me to do something I despised from day one."
"Oh please, you're not being irrational. It's a dangerous world out there, and thanks to us you weren't prepared for it."
Virgil opened his mouth to argue but the speaker suddenly buzzed on and Arthur's voice came through, "I get that family reunions can suck sometimes, but can you two try to get along? Or at least focus on what you're supposed to?"
Virgil and Janus both huffed with annoyance and turned to find a place to sit, Janus took a seat on the bed and Virgil found a place on the opposite end of the room, on the floor. "What are you teaching this kid?" Virgil asked as he pulled his used-to-be Child Development notebook out of his bag, along with a pencil. "Logan says a good curriculum is vital to any sort of teaching job, I'm inclined to agree."
"I don't have a curriculum, I just offer my advice when he needs it and we occasionally discuss matters the program needs us to discuss."
Virgil shook his head, "Probably not the best idea, especially since they think you're corrupting the kid, but-"
"Excuse me Virgil, but when did you become an expert on children? As I recall, you've always been, almost afraid of them."
"I'm scared of responsibility, not the tiny gremlins. And I'm not an expert, but I do know stuff. That's why they chose me to help you."
"They chose you because you're my son." Virgil flinched, "They want to see how we interact with each other. This was just their excuse. They're most definitely not playing with us like a child with a doll."
