What happens when a mother abandons her child to focus on her dreams? When she decides to lock away her emotions and focus her goals, she builds up to anything she touches; but crumbles down on family orientation. Will she ever le...
I could not believe my eyes. "I don't believe you." I seethed. She scoffed.
"My sister must have given it to you bad huh," she said walking over to the mirror, pulling out her lip gloss and applying it. "You don't have to believe me, you'll see it. But first, welcome to Saint Xavior High preparatory." She chirped. Maybe she was right. Lucinda had brown hair, whereas this girl had raven hair. Her facial features were peaceful and Lucinda's? She always had this strange glint in her eyes that I didn't quite understand. Yet, I still felt uneasy around her, even though she clarified her identity.
Lucrecia, as she called herself, wore the exact same uniform, bottoms being platform stilettos. Only then did I realize that indeed, this school uniform shouted out trouble in terms of how and whom wore it. I admit, she looked good. "You know, speaking when not spoken to is against the code of conduct."
"I didn't know that," I replied.
"Now you do hun. Come with me, classes are over and we have the rest of the day to ourselves." She pulled me out of the restroom and as we walked out, I bumped into something, I mean someone. "W.T.F!" She spat. I took a step back and eyed her. She wore a cheerleading outfit, had to be a cheerleader, perhaps the captain. Before I could say anything, Lucrecia pulled on my hand; dragging me towards the dorms.
"Why are we going to the dorms?"
"Duh! It's where I stay. I'm supposed to be sharing but the girl is said to be indecisive so for now, the room is all mine." We finally reached her wing after passing countless hallways and rooms. All rooms had numbers. She was located at the east wing. She unlocked the door and the sight completely took my breath away. It was nothing like I had imagined it to be. I expected a dull and boring dorm room.

Xavior high knew its business. Momentarily, I wanted to move in. "Close your mouth or you might catch flies." Lucrecia chuckled.
I blushed, "Are all the dorm rooms this amazing?"
"They depend on the year you're doing. We're juniors. Seniors have bigger rooms, even those who are sharing." She replied taking out an outfit to change into.
"So did you choose yours?"
"Not really, I was interviewed on the basis of color. Seniors and graduates can redesign theirs."
"Wait, graduates?"
"Yes hun. Saint Xavior High Prep isn't just a high school, it's also a college." Wow, it just keeps getting better. Lucrecia changed into some skinny Jeans and a tank top with ankle boots. After settling in her outfit, she eyed me down. "Should I accompany you to your dorm to change?"
"That won't be necessary." Lucrecia gave me a puzzled look. I smiled and sat on the couch. "I'm not registered on any of the dormitories. I'll just come for classes and leave later on, I'm waiting for my aunt to come and pick me up."
"Okay, but it is most recommended that you're in the dorms. It's a boarding school, you do know that right?"
"I do, but the idea of being left alone and far away from the people I love, who have been taking care of me-"
Lucrecia smiled. "I understand. But, you'd have me now. I'm a lot nicer and different from my sis."
Her statement sparked a bit of curiosity in me. "By the way, why are you separated? You're twins after all." She chuckled, walking over to the other closet. She took out a pair of denim shorts, tights and a tshirt.
"Try this one, so you're more comfortable." I nodded. Wondering how the hell is the other closet for her supposed roommate is already filled and sorted. "It was also part of the interview. You're interviewed on the fashion sense you're into, they take measurements and buy it all. You don't have to pack your whole wardrobe from home. Everything is already set for you."
How convenient, the outfit fit me like a glove. She sat next to me on the couch and she took out some snacks. She saw the look on my face. "Cabinets. So, the thing with Lulu and I..."
"Yeah?"
"She was more like the evil twin between the two of us. Always causing mischief. She was enrolled here too; but her wicked ways got her expelled. Now she's at some average high school in Brewsfort. Living with our mom. I've been here since the 8th grade and every holiday, I prefer staying with my stepdad than being with Lulu in the same room. You know, she's the reason my stepdad and mom are separated, just because she wanted this other rich fella to date mom." Lucrecia sounded so heartbroken.
"Michael Maeve?" I asked, testing the waters.
She lightly chuckled, "Yeah, she was so obsessed with him that she wanted him to be our father."
"How did she meet him, Mr Maeve I mean."
"Oh, mom was his subordinate. We used to see him a lot as kids at her work place and she became envious of...you!" The realization finally hit her. Her eyes went wide. "Omg! How did I not get it sooner. You're the late Michael Maeve's daughter. Damn, I'm so sorry about your dad." I chuckled and hugged her. "It's okay."
"As I was saying, Lulu was so envious of you. How your dad treated you like his little princess. I admired it too but never wished you bad. Back then ma was dating my now stepdad. I don't know how a kid could do the things Lulu did. She managed to separate them and unfortunately her dream of becoming a Maeve heiress fell in vain. At some point they got back together (my parents) and married, but fought all the time. Till they decided to separate, I chose to be with my stepdad and he is the reason I'm still at this school."
Lucrecia sighed, "We gather once a month just to test the waters. But I don't think it'll ever work out between them..." Damn her story was something else.
We spent the next few hours becoming close friends and enjoying ourselves. "So Kami, what ethnicity are you?" Her question made me numb. Bringing a cloud of discomfort and an identity crisis.
I casted my eyes to the floor. "I don't know...I don't know what I am..." I replied staring at my hands. Lucrecia noticed my despair and pulled me into a tight, warm embrace. I don't know for how long we stayed like that. For the first time, I didn't feel alone. My phone rang and I knew my aunt was here. Lucrecia and I exchanged contacts before she accompanied me outside. Overjoyed to see my aunt's vibrant smile. I bid Lucrecia farewell and we drove off. Best first day ever...
