Some wounds don't need words. They need a witness.
What happens when a mother's greatest success is her refusal to feel?
Kamilah Paisley Maeve, 18, has always relied on her father-the rock who helped her navigate high school whil...
The sun rose and I got up early to get ready to attend my new school. Took a shower and did my morning routine completing it with the new school uniform.

It was so much better than my old school uniform. To top it off it looked good on me, especially with knee-high socks and strappy black platform stiletto heels. A rather sexy school uniform if you looked too much into the details but who cares.
I took my backpack and rushed downstairs. I found Marley already setting up for breakfast. "Good morning, where's Josh?" I asked as I sat on the island table.
"He had to rush to work. Pancakes?" She replied. I nodded with glee. We had our breakfast in peace. Afterwards, I cleaned up as I awaited Aunt Veronica to come pick me up.
"You look absolutely gorgeous, honey." I blushed.
"Thank you. This new school seems prestigious from what I've heard from Aunt Veronica."
"Oh it is. Michael, Josh, Onica and I went to it."
I joked on my juice. My eyes bulging out of their sockets. I was in utter disbelief.
Marley chuckled. "Yes, we were quite the team back in the day. It's located just outside of town. Hidden from the busyness of the streets and prying eyes. Back in the day it was a boarding prep school. Now, I don't know much of it. It has gotten so secretive, less publicity but still the most famous, I wonder how Dira does it."
"Who is Dira?" I asked,
"She was the headmistress."
"You're right about one thing hun, she was the headmistress. Now, Mrs Tremayne Duke is the headmistress." We heard Aunt Veronica's voice from the distance. We didn't hear her come in but she was no stranger here.
She sat next to me as Marley made her a cup of coffee. "Morning darling," she said brushing a strand of hair off my face.
I took in her outfit and I fell inlove.

She was the full definition of classy and yet elegant. "Aunt Veronica, what do you do?" I enquired, curiously.
"Details to follow but we gotta get you to school."
I nodded and we walked outside. Bid Marley farewell and entered her car. We drove for about an hour into a forest leaving town, from the distance I saw just how huge the school was. It was in an enclosed compound. We entered the premises and I could feel the change. The fact that the gate was about 120meters away, no doubt I'd have to wait for a car to come get me from the school's courtyard. The building had that vintage vibe to it. The architecture was marvelous. We got closer and pulled out at the parking lot, a few meters from the school's courtyard. Few cars were present.
I took in a shaky breath, Auntie held my hand. "It's going to be okay. This is where you belong." I nodded and we got out of the car and I marveled at the beautiful scenery. The cool breeze. "Winters are most cold here." My aunt whispered. I looked around and all I could see was a forest that covered the school. We entered the building, surprised that no one was outside. When we got in, a series of hallways, doors and staircases filled the enormous room. Across the door there was the receptionist at her desk.
Dumbfounded, I wondered how this was even possible. I felt like I walked into some fantasy school reception. The lady behind the desk gave us a warm and welcoming smile. "Welcome to Saint Xavior High Preparatory. How can I help you?"
"We're here to see Mrs Duke, the headmistress."
"I'm sorry, she's not in her office right now. She's addressing the entire school at the assembly. Is she a transfer student?" The receptionist asked; shifting her focus to me.
"Yes. Her name is Kamilah Paisley Maeve."
The lady went on her computer gracefully, "I'm sorry, she is not enrolled here."
Shock pierced through us. "What!?" I asked, confused. I was there when my aunt requested the transfer papers.
"There has to be some mistake. I personally did the transfer yesterday. Please check again, miss."
"Yes of course, we have a Kamilah Paisley Valley-Maeve enrolled with us. Under the guardianship of Uncanny Valley and Veronica Maeve." The receptionist chirped.
My aunt cursed under her skin. "Damn that Valley!"
"Miss, she is my aunt and I go by Kamilah Paisley Maeve, not Valley-Maeve. Who made the changes?"
"U-"
"I did." Mom responded before the receptionist could. My aunt and I watched her descend the stairs with a fine looking woman beside her. "Hi, Onica." My aunt grunted. Annoyed by her presence. She was about to retort back when the lady who came with mom interrupted her.
"Ladies, let's head to my office shall we?" We followed her upstairs, the balcony had stairs that led downstairs from the east and west side of the receptionist's desk. This place was huge. The hallway was huge and long with windows on the sides. Only then did I see just how magnificent the school was.
When I came in I only saw the front part. The body of it was simply magnificent. Buildings adjacent one another. Another huge courtyard. I'm pretty sure what I saw was just the basics.
We finally entered the headmistress' office. She sat behind her huge oak table. Gesturing for us to sit infront.

Her outfit was simple and classy. A perfect demonstration of how a principal can dress up.
"It is so good to finally meet you Kamilah." She chirped. I then noticed that she had a British accent.
"Uhm...I just got enrolled yesterday, how are you enthusiastic about meeting me?"
"The Maeve clan all went here. I was excited to have a descendant of them returning. You see, I was friends with them years ago." The headmistress spoke. I nodded in acknowledgement.
"Why are you here Uncanny and how did you make changes. I am her legal guardian!" My aunt exploded.
"Anything is possible when you're influential. She is my daughter after all."
"Ladies please," the headmistress put out the fire that was about to set ablaze. "The most important part is that Kamilah is here now. All is done and I'll have my secretary email you the details. For now, one of you will have to know Kamilah's schedule and come pick her up at 16:00. Unless she prefers to be a full time student and gets accommodation."
I went numb. My body stiffened. "It is a boarding school after all." Mom replied.
"Really? You're planning on dumping her all over again??"
