KP's POV
"Hey, auntie?"
"Yes, darlin'?" She stole a glance while driving.
"Can we head to my house?" I fidgeted.
"You mean Michael's?" I nodded. "Alright, give Marley a call and let her know of the changes."
I did as such, an hour later we were at my former household's gate. We entered the house and a housemaid greeted us. "Wait, how did you?"
"I hired her. Since you were staying over at Marley's, I thought it best I hired a housekeeper to keep it tidy in your absence." Oh, well I guess that's fine. "Amandla, at your service madam." This rich caramel skinned girl bowed her head as she greeted me. I was astonished. Why someone so young? "Uhm, my name is Kamilah. How old are you?"
"She's in her twenties hun, let it go." My aunt said walking away. Something about this Amandla didn't sit well with me. Yet, I couldn't say why. So instead, I just brushed it off and accepted the new circumstances. It would be nice having someone around when auntie wasn't around.
I took off and went to my room. Black and white themed, I felt at home and it was tidied up. Thank God for you Amandla. I went to take a shower and changed into my pajamas. Momentarily, a message came through on my phone.
Cece: you still awake?
Kami: yeah, Cece. What up?
Cece: I am still not fond of that nickname but I'll work with it.
Kami: U have no choice🤗
Cece: Anyways, I wanted to let you know about the upcoming freshers ball.
What!? I am not a socialite, I don't do balls.
Cece: u still there?
Kami: yeah, but I wont make it.
Cece: why not?
Kami: I don't do balls and publicity things.
Cece: well newsflash, you're in a prep school. That ball is mandatory. So, sorry hun, you're coming.
Kami: 😭argh! Fine!
Cece: Good. It's a meet and greet. You'll do just fine. It's in 3 days by the way.
Kami: 3 days!? Okay, I'll be there.
Cece: good. Sleep tight hun❤
Kami: night❤
Damn. I sighed slumping on my bed. I slept on my back having flashbacks about my father. Oh how I dearly missed him. He left me so soon. In a blink of an eye, I thought about Uncanny. She confused me. I admired her for years and 17 years later, I found out I'm her daughter. How can one have a stilled heart like that? A lone tear betrayed me as I thought of it.
"What the hell is she doing here!?" I heard someone shouting from downstairs. My curiosity sparked and I wiped the tear off, jumping at the opportunity to keep my mind off things. I raced downstairs only to be greeted by Uncanny's rage. I've seen her pissed off before but now, it took the cake. "Explain it to me Veronica, as to why she is here!?" Oh she mad, she never addressed auntie by her full name. "Relax princess, it's not that much of a big deal." My aunt replied, flipping her hair.
"Not a big deal? Do you know just what the hell you have done!?" She screeched, blazing fire.
"If you tone it down then maybe I will." Auntie retorted.
"What's going on?" I questioned looking between all three of them.
"It's nothing to worry about sweetie, your mo-" My eyebrows furrowed.
"-Uncanny, is just throwing an unnecessary tantrum." She corrected herself. Uncanny grunted.
"You piss me off Veronica. But this? You don't know what you just did."
"Uncanny," Amandla's sweet and unsteady voice drew our attention.
Uncanny pointed at her, "Don't you say a word." She seethed.
"You've went too far with this Onica."
"You know, we could hear you vent all evening or you can just tell us why you're here..." auntie smirked. The statement shook Uncanny. Her anger evaporated.
"Uhh..." she was tongue tied. Wow, never thought I would see the day.
"Come on, tell us just why you're here. You don't care about your daughter, you've made that pretty clear. So, darling, why are you here?"
Uncanny's mind seemed to have been in a state of shock for she remained silent for some time. We were about to give up when, "That is besides the point." She replied, oh yeah, she's back. "Like, why would you bring her into this mess?" She questioned, seemingly exhausted...emotionally. I was about to intervene when Amandla cut me off my thoughts. "Mess? What mess?" Amandla spoke up.
"Stay out of it." Uncanny rubbed her temple.
"No. I wanna know. Why you shut me out, huh?" Amandla's own anger was now seeping through bit by bit.
"Not now Amandla," Uncanny sighed heavily-her eyes shut, hands curling into fists.
"Why you shutting me out, Uncanny? Why!?" She shouted, eyes teary. My head tilted to the side.
"What have you done Veronica!" Uncanny finally exploded. "Why did you have to push me this far?" Her lips quivered. "Why did you bring her here?"
"I wanted to be here." Amandla responded.
"You. You..." she struggled to breathe as she paced about. For the first time, I saw Uncanny in a new light. She seemed defeated. "Veronica, you-" she paused,
"What? Is there something you want to tell me?" My aunt urged on. Amused. I stood there watching it all unfold. Uncanny froze on her tracks and glared at my aunt.
"You!" She pointed at her. "Just ruined everything!"
"How?"
"Why didn't you leave her out of this? Veronica you have no idea of what you just unleashed. This is worse than anything else you've ever done. I-" she heaved. "You dodged a bullet because of me Veronica." We all glared at her as if she lost her mind. She leaned against the wall trying not to break down. "Bringing Amandla here just makes things even worse..." she quivered. Her body shook.
"Mom..." the word slipped right of my mouth and I held my tongue back, staring at floor.
"You could never survive half of what I have been through...and now..." she whispered.
In a blink of an eye, she cleared her throat and regained her composure, as if we didn't hear what she had just said. "You better leave." She seethed as if she wasn't about to break down moments ago. This woman confused me. I felt bad for her seconds ago and now I'm back to hating her. What is her deal?
