KP's POV
"Please take your seat, Miss Kamilah." Ms Layla called me out as I walked into her class, ten minutes late.
How did that happen? Well, let's just say, it involves liars and backstabbers.
As I walked to my seat with my tail between my legs, one of the rich girls whispered to her friend, "Look at her, she doesn't belong here." They both giggled.
"Dora. Paige. Keep it down." Ms Layla instructed. The girls grunted and obeyed as I sat on my seat. I glanced over the next row to Lucrecia's seat. Her head was rested on the table. She must be exhausted.
The class commenced as usual. Ms Layla was in the middle of her session when a chair screeched and Lucrecia ran out of the classroom. Everyone eyed each other. I'll check in her later.
"Excuse me everyone, I have somewhere to be. Paige, the stage is yours." Ms Layla stated. Packing her things and walking out of the classroom.
Paige stood up and went upfront. She glared at me. If looks could kill. She was about to open her mouth when my chair screeched back and I rushed towards the door. Making a run for it. I didn't have the time of day to entertain her nor listen to the nonsense she'd have to say. She cleared her throat, "Where do you think you're going?" I was half way across the classroom when she spoke.
I spun around on my heels towards her direction. I forced a smile, "To make sure that my friend is okay."
Paige eyed me down disgusted. "You have to ask for permission first." Said Dora. I was starting to dislike their preppy, popular girl attitudes. My hands balled into fists, I took in a few deep breaths.
"May I be excused?" I said through gritted teeth.
Paige smiled triumphantly, giving me a curt nod as permission. As I opened the door and closed it behind me, laughter erupted from the class. I peeked in, "Girls like her have no social class. She probably got in this school because her mother is well known." Paige stated.
As if on cue, her phone notified her of an incoming message. Her cheeks flushed. Her friends flaunted her. "Isn't he the cutest?" One chirped.
"He'll definitely ask you out!" Said Dora. Paige hushed them.
"Girls please, Angelo isn't a forward guy, but I will be his girlfriend." They giggled as my world came crumbling down.
I felt like I had noodle legs as they trembled. My own body felt heavy. So this is why he hasn't been returning my calls? No. I won't allow it. I blinked back the tears. Went to my locker and turned on my phone. I called Angelo. The first call went to voicemail. The second one, he hung up. My heart sank as the seconds passed by.
I held in my breath on the third call. "Hello?" He replied on the other line. I heaved a sigh of relief.
"Hey, babe!" I masked my pain.
"I was thinking, how about we go on a date after school." I suggested, fidgeting.
"Sure okay. We can meet at the junction of your street."
"Okay. I lo-"
"I have to go." He hung up.
He didn't even let me finish my statement. But not to worry, everything would be okay after our date. Just because we were in different schools didn't mean we couldn't make us work.
I sighed as I walked down the hallway. "Kamilah right?" I heard Walter's voice from across the hall. We stood head to chest in a good distance. "How are you?" My ears perked.
"The hell you want?" I asked him. I was taken aback when he came closer. His hands cupped my face. He used his thumbs to lightly wipe the tears I didn't know were streaming down my cheeks. I felt ashamed.
"If you need anything, I'll be here for you."
I suddenly felt agitated and furious. "Yeah, right." I held my composure, stepping to the side. "Thanks, but no thanks." I stated walking towards the dorms.
"I know you will!" He called out. Idiot.
The walk to Lucrecia's dorm room was slow and lonely. Until I saw Ms Layla walk out of her room. I picked up my pace and managed to catch up to her. "Wait! Ms Layla," I breathed out, "Is Lucrecia okay?" She seemed fazed.
"Shouldn't you be in class?" She brushed my question off. "I want to know what's wrong with my friend, Miss. That's all." I stated bowing my head. Folding my hands behind me. She let out a strained sigh, "Maybe she'll want to talk to you." I gasped staring at her. She simply smiled and walked away. Such mystery.
I knocked and opened the door. Lucrecia was curled up in a ball on the carpeted floor. "Cece?" I crouched beside her. "Go away." She groaned. I scanned around and the room was a mess. Everything was misplaced. "Lucrecia, it's me, Kamilah. What's wrong?" I tried reaching out to her.
"Everything!" She cried.
"Please go, I want to be alone." She said in a hushed whisper.
"No, I'm not going anywhere until you're feeling better." My stubbornness intervened.
She sat up right and gave me a sad smile. Her eyes were puffy. She looked pale. Her raven hair was a mess. Overall, she looked like she was run over by a bus. She opened her mouth. Then closed it. A couple of times repeatedly, gaping like a fish out of water.
She seemed conflicted. At the very least, she stood up and in a blink of an eye she was running out. I followed suit. The restroom? I watched her empty the contents in her stomach. When she was done, she stared at her reflection in the mirror. Washing her face in the basin. Could she...?
I waited for her to speak. Patiently waited. "I didn't want to worry you and I apologize for being rude." Her voice was weak. I hugged her and she hugged me back. "It's alright and I'm here for you. We're friends remember?" We pulled back.
She nodded, I held her hands in mine tightly. Encouraging her. Her eyes closed as she prepared herself. She squeezed my hands, "I'm pregnant." She stated. "OMG! Look at what the cat dragged in!" Paige's voice erupted from one of the stalls. She flushed and came out.
"I knew you weren't so innocent the moment I laid eyes on you. As soon as the headmistress gets a load of this, you're out of here." She cackled, leaving the restroom after washing her hands. Lucrecia sobbed in my arms. There was nothing I could do for her. "I can't keep it."
"Cece..."
"But, I'm sure daddy would want me back because of!" She completely did a 180. I was awestruck. Perplexed. I took a few steps back. "You're not planning to use your pregnancy as leverage are you?"
"Depends on how you look at it." A smug smile was plastered on her face. Has she lost her mind!? "I love daddy, he loves me but..." she held her tummy lovingly. "This is an opportunity for us to be a family. He'll love me forever."
My friend was losing her mind right infront of me. "Lucrecia...you can't do that." This was something Lucinda would do.
"Watch me."
