KP's POV

"Settle down class. I am Ms Layla. Your history teacher. Today we will be focusing on ethnicity..."

Her topic indulged a certain passion within me. I felt as though I would get a few questions answered about my own ethnicity. Half an hour later, she had mentioned facts that were of no use to me. Or so I thought. "-Those are labelled as Quadroons..." before she could continue, recess had approached. "Alright everyone. See you tomorrow. Come prepared with chapter 5 of your history books."

I waited for everyone to leave the classroom before I approached her. "Uhm, excuse me, Ms Layla?" She looked up from her desk.

"Yes? Err, I don't seem to recall your name sweetheart..."

"Kamilah,"

"Ow, you must be new in my class. How can I help you sweetie?" She asked, adjusting her glasses.

"Your topic spiked a lot of interest. Especially about Quadroons...I would like to know more if you don't mind."

Ms Layla smiled, "Not at all, you see..."

"KAMILAH!" Lucrecia whispered-yell. Cutting Ms Layla off.

"It's okay sweetie, go enjoy your recess. Will talk another time when you're not occupied."
"But..." My protest came out as a whisper than what I had expected it to be.

"I have been looking everywhere for you. Hi Ms Layla." The teacher gave a curt wave. "We have to get going. Now!" She dragged me out of the classroom.

"What is your deal Cece!?" She literally pissed me off. I couldn't fish out the information I wanted because of her.

"Excuse me," a voice came through over the announcer speaker boxes that hung on the walls in classrooms and hallways. "Ladies and gentlemen, the headmistress speaking. Classes are dismissed today in order to give you ample time to prepare for the ball this evening. It is a mandatory freshers ball. You will be graded on appearance and presence. What you've worn and whether you have attended the function. Thank you." The speaker went off. I was about to continue giving Cece a piece of my mind when,

"Oh shit! The ball's today!?" It finally struck me.

"Duh! Why'd you think I've been looking for you for?"

"Like the hell!? Why didn't you remind me Cece!?"

"I did. Check your phone."
I went on my phone to view my messages only to be greeted by the red dressed dancing emoji.

"What is this?" I asked, showing it to her.

She folded her arms. "Your reminder."

I rolled my eyes. "No, really, what the hell? How the heck was I supposed to guess this was referring to the ball!?" I yelled.

"Enough with the drama. Let's go get ready."

"Where on earth am I going to buy a dress? My aunt can't be here for another 5 hours." I panicked.

"Chill, you forgetting something..."

"What?" I questioned as we entered her room. She walked over to the closets.

"This school provides you with everything." She replied, her arms stretched out. My mouth flung open. "How the?"

Lucrecia chuckled. "Every week a new collection and selection is brought in. Obviously they had to give us a wide range of selection for the ball and they delivered." I honestly could not believe it. Both the closets had hangers of new dresses and gowns like a store would.

My eyes landed on this other champagne gown and I fell inlove. "You like it?" Lucrecia gave off an amazing smile. "Wear it. You'll look absolutely stunning. I'll go with the red one."

Kamilah's dress.

Lucrecia's dress.

It wasn't long before we went to take showers and got ready. Still mesmerized by my dress. "Something is bothering me though,"

"Out with it." She stared at me through the vanity window as she applied make up.

"Ain it weird that the other closet has clothes that fit me and are my taste?" Lucrecia snorted.

"How do you not get it?"

My eyebrows furrowed, "What do you mean?"

"We're supposed to be in the same room Kamilah. You're my alleged roommate." I got tongue tied.

"The hell!?"

"Isn't it a good thing though? I'm just thrilled you not one of those preppy girls. You're nice." I smiled at her compliment as we added the finishing touches.

"Well, I'll be damned. We look amazing!" I chirped.

Soon enough we headed to the ballroom. Everyone dressed so elegantly and I felt like I may have overdressed. "Relax, it's for your grade after all." Keeping that in mind made me a whole lot better. We hung around, just greeting and socializing, refreshments were also available and that had people serving it. No student was allowed near the refreshment table, I actually thought it was a good idea. They shouldn't risk others getting spiked drinks. Minutes into it, the headmistress ascended the stage wearing a sparkly mermaid long sleeved royal blue satin dress and behind her, Uncanny. In a sparkly one shoulder mermaid black dress as well.

Headmistress' dress.

Uncanny's dress.

"Attention, this evening we have a special guest. Ms Valley everyone! We have tried many years to get her to be here but her tight schedule always obscured her, but tonight, she's all ours. Without further ado, Uncanny Valley!" She gestured towards mom's direction and she came up. Looking glamorous as ever. She took the Mike and scanned around.

"Why are there reporters Lucrecia?" I whispered.

"Events here are always broadcasted for the public eye." She responded.

"Thank you for having me. I hope everyone will enjoy this evening's ball to their hearts' content. There is an announcement I would like to address for society, but another day. Enjoy the night everyone. Cheers!" She stepped down and everyone cheered. Her statement made my heart skip a few beats. I wondered just what her announcement was. Is she getting married? The party progressed and we had fun, dancing and enjoying ourselves.

Meanwhile, Javan went to the address he saw on Uncanny's phone and waited for the person. From the entrance he saw a beautiful young lady walk in. "Reservation for Valley." She murmured.

"Right this way." The lady at the reception led her straight to Javan's table.

"Well what do we have here?" He asked himself most amused, "Hello, Amandla." He greeted her with a grin.

"Who are you and where is Bonnie?" She asked, pissed off.

Javan sat up straight from his chair, his left eyebrow raised. "Bonnie?"

"Bonang. My sister..."

Javan sat back at his chair. His eyebrows furrowed, lightly tapping on his chin. "You mean Uncanny Valley." He stated with a dirty smirk. Amandla just glared at him unbeknownst of the danger she had put herself and her sister in.
