Next Day

"Nurin, get up... last warning!" Alia's voice echoed from downstairs.

Every morning was the same.

Her mother yelled.

Nurin ignored it.

Then came the final warning, and only then would she drag herself out of bed. She had never been a morning person. If left alone, she'd happily sleep until noon.

Today, however, wasn't about wanting more sleep.

It was about avoiding what came after.

The moment she opened her eyes, Harraz's face flashed across her mind.

His confident smile.

His calm voice.

The way he'd looked at her yesterday.

She groaned, pulling the duvet over her face.

Ya Allah... why am I nervous?

It wasn't that she wasn't ready for work. She had worked hard for years to become an architect. She had dreamed of designing buildings, creating spaces people would one day call home.

Meeting one man shouldn't make her heart race.

Yet somehow...

It did.

"Nurin!" Alia called again.

Nurin shot upright. "I'm awake, Mama!" she yelled back before scrambling out of bed.

She hurried into the bathroom, letting the cool water from the shower wash away the last traces of sleep. After drying her hair, she performed wudu' and prayed Fajr, asking Allah to ease her heart and grant her confidence for the day ahead.

Standing in front of her wardrobe afterward proved to be far more difficult than she expected.

Usually, she'd throw on the first thing she saw.

Today...

Nothing seemed right.

She pulled out a beige blouse.

"No..."

Then a navy one.

"Too serious."

A white satin blouse.

"Too much."

She sighed dramatically before finally settling on a soft sage-green long-sleeved blouse with delicate pearl buttons. It looked elegant without trying too hard. She paired it with tailored ivory wide-leg trousers that skimmed just above her ankles, giving her a polished yet effortless look.

She slipped on a fitted cream blazer, studied herself in the mirror, then immediately took it off.

Too formal.

Back on.

Off again.

"...You're overthinking this."

She laughed quietly at herself.

"I'm dressing for work... not for him."

Even though she wasn't entirely convinced.

She reached for a pair of nude pointed-toe heels with a modest block heel—professional enough for walking around construction sites if needed, yet stylish enough for the corporate office she'd be working in.
