Nurin and her younger sister, Ariana, stood near the entrance of the mall, waiting for Ahad to arrive.
"Nurin, where is he? What's taking him so long?" Ariana asked, looking around impatiently. "Well, the traffic is usually bad at this hour," Nurin replied, glancing at her watch.
A few moments later, Ahad hurried toward them.
"Assalamu Alaikum! I'm so sorry I'm late," he said, slightly out of breath.
"Wa Alaikum Assalam," they both replied. "It's really hard to find a parking spot here," Ahad explained apologetically. Ariana simply stared at him for a second before Nurin smiled.
"No, it's alright. We haven't been waiting that long." She then turned to her sister. "By the way, this is my sister... Ariana Grande."
Ahad blinked in surprise before laughing.
"Wow! Ariana Grande?" Ariana burst into laughter as well. "Yeah, I'm a huge fan of her, so that's the nickname everyone uses."
Still smiling, Ahad held out his hand.
"Hi, Ariana." She shook his hand with a cheerful grin.
"Hi, Ahad. Nice to meet you." "Nice to meet you too."
Unlike Nurin's quiet and reserved nature, Ariana was naturally outgoing. At seventeen years old, she could strike up a conversation with almost anyone. She wasn't wearing a headscarf, and her friendly personality quickly made the atmosphere feel relaxed, making Ahad feel comfortable almost immediately.
"Are you ready? Let's go," Ahad said with a smile, looking at Nurin.
"Let's go," Nurin replied. Ahad started walking ahead while the two sisters followed behind.
Ariana leaned closer to Nurin and whispered, "My goodness... why didn't you tell me he's handsome?"
Nurin lightly smacked her on the head.
"Behave yourself."
The sisters giggled as they continued walking. As they made their way through the mall, Ahad suddenly spotted someone.
"Hi, Dev!" he called, walking over to him.
"Hi, Ahad." The two greeted each other with a brief hug.
"How are you?"
"I'm good," Ahad replied with a smile. Standing behind Ahad, Nurin gave Dev a small wave. Their eyes met for a moment, and she subtly shook her head, signaling that he should pretend they didn't know each other.
Dev understood immediately. Ahad turned toward Nurin, who quickly lowered her gaze.
"Let me introduce you. This is Nurin, and this is her younger sister, Ariana." Dev smiled politely.
"Hi, Nurin." Then he looked at Ariana.
"Hi, Ariana."
"Hi," Ariana replied with a friendly smile. Ahad glanced at Nurin and quickly said, "There's nothing going on. She's just my best friend. That's all." Dev chuckled.
"I know. Ahad looked at him curiously.
"Do you know Nurin?"
Nurin subtly shook her head again, hoping Dev would understand.
He did.
"No, Dev answered smoothly. "Besides, if she were your girlfriend, her sister probably wouldn't be tagging along." Ahad laughed.
"True." Turning back to Nurin, he said, "Dev is a very popular fashion designer."
"Oh, really?" Nurin said with a polite smile. "That explains why you look so familiar. I recognized your face, but I couldn't remember where I'd seen you."
