16. When the truth comes out

December 27th, 2014. – First year of college.

It was already night when the Dodge parked in front of Jisoo's family home. The house was located in the Prospect Heights, the neighborhood was known for being one of the most expensive in New York, but Chaeyoung wasn’t surprised by this fact, she knew that Jisoo’s family had had money since meeting the girl’s parents’ cottage. The blonde was uncomfortable, had to admit, because she wasn’t used to people who had money, and now she had two rich friends besides her girlfriend. Chaeyoung didn’t feel ashamed of her family’s financial condition, much less her father who struggled every day to have something to eat, but the blonde girl couldn’t deny that being the poor girl among the riches was intimidating.

The night was a little colder than usual, but that didn’t stop the loud music from coming from inside the house, where it was possible to see the guest’s shadows by the curtain of the window and their happy shouts from the sidewalk.

Lisa took the key out of the ignition and sighed loudly, catching Chaeyoung’s attention as she looked at her curiously. The Thai girl had a sad countenance and a wrinkle on her forehead that the older girl knew it was for tonight, where they would have to pretend they were just friends.

“Is everything all right?” she asked, holding Lisa’s hand on the car gear. “You know we can just leave and then make up an excuse …”

“No, I don’t want to leave.” She finally said, looking into Chaeyoung’s eyes, her heart racing. She would never get used to Lisa’s gaze, was more sure it every time her heart missed a beat when their eyes met. “I just … I don’t know, I wanted things to be different. I wish I could walk through that door holding your hand and show everyone I’m your girlfriend without fear of their reactions.”

Chaeyoung’s heart broke for a moment, both for having the same wish, and for knowing that Lisa was fighting an internal battle from the day they kissed for the first time.

She unbuckled her seat belt and pulled Lisa’s face with both hands almost touching the foreheads, Chaeyoung was serious now wanting to pass her trust to the girlfriend.

“I don’t care about that, Lisa. Of course I wanted to come in as your girlfriend, but more than that, being your girl is enough for me. Thirty percent of the people in there want you, and by the end of the night the only one who can really can have you is me.“ she sealed their lips as if in confirmation of what she just said. “You need your time and I’ll give it to you, no pressure, okay?” Lisa nodded. “I love you.”

“Love you too.” Murmured the Thai girl, pulling the girlfriend by the back of her neck for another kiss where her lower lip was sucked sweetly and Chaeyoung’s tongue playing with hers lazily. A wet kiss, calm, not in a hurry to end. “Thanks.” She breathed into the girl’s lips, receiving a kiss before they parted.

Chaeyoung grinned from ear to ear still feeling Lisa’s taste in her mouth. It was magnificent. She wiped her lips with the sleeve of her shirt and opened the car door with her backpack on the back. Lisa took a deep breath twice and also got out of the car holding herself containing the desire to hold the older girl’s hand. They looked at each other before Lisa rang the bell, it wasn’t long until the door opened revealing a smiling Jisoo and electronic music invading their eardrums aggressively.

Honestly, how could she be a normal teenager if young people these days only enjoy that tuts, tuts, tuts? What poetry is there? What feeling? Is that what the song is all about?

“I cannot believe the beauties decided to show up!” exclaimed Jisoo pulling the two together for a tight hug. “I haven’t seen you since … What? A month ago? What have you been up to in the meantime, ladies?”
