CHAPTER 35

The days we smile and the nights we cry... can't we freeze the time? Can we not go back, to the time when everything was so fine? Why do we have to keep hurting each other like this?

JIEUN P.O.V

The time flies really fast. Finally it's the day of the concert with Blackpink. Though it was quite hard to keep up with other dancers, I tried my best and I'm gonna give my best. Today I'm gonna perform with all my might so that I won't have any regrets.

But before everything there's something else I need to do.

"Yumi, can we talk?"

"Hmm? Yeah, sure."

"Let's go out."

Yumi had a confused look on her face but said nothing. With a smile I walked out of the changing room and the sound of heels clicking coming behind me confirmed that she's following me.

"Two hours before the concert and what am I really up to? I don't know."

Walking inside the nearby Café I took a seat at a corner and Yumi took the seat across me.

"So...what did you want to talk with me?"

"It's umm..."

Wetting my lips I tried to come up with a way to sweeten this sour topic. But...is it even possible?

Taking a deep breath I opened my mouth to answer her question.

"Well...the thing is...this will be my last performance."

"Hmm? What do you mean?"

"I... won't be dancing anymore."

The very thought brought tears to my eyes.

"Wh- why? All of a sudden?"

"Honestly I shouldn't be doing it even now."

A sad smile left my lips while Yumi raised an eyebrow in question.

".... I'm sick Yumi. I'm severely sick. I... I've a cancer."

I tried to pull out a smile but it kept faltering with every word I uttered.

With her lips turned into an 'O' she looked at me with tears filled eyes. Shaking her head she started to mumble, unable to believe what I said.

"No. No, no, no. It- it can't be."

Like anybody else, she stepped into the denial stage.

".... You are lying right?"

With my bottom lip tucked in between my teeth, I scrunched my face a little before shaking my head in a 'no'. Truth hitting like a damn truck on her, Yumi broke down in tears.

"No way."

Tears kept flowing down my cheeks as well. Looking everywhere but her I tried holding them back but to no avail. Patting my cheeks to dry off the tears a little, I then stood up from my seat and sat next to Yumi.

Pulling her into a hug I talked again.

"I'm sorry, I know this isn't the best timing to say something like this but... I- I just wanted to tell you. I wanted to take it out."

I said the final words more like to myself.

Breaking the hug Yumi looked at me with her reddened eyes.

"It's... it's honestly hard to process all this. You and I have been together for a very long time and now..."

Closing her eyes tightly Yumi turned her head down while I tried to stop the tears by placing my fingers on the corners of my eyes now and then.
