As soon as I saw that Roman had left I gave Mahieu my full attention.

"Are you out of your mind?" I half shouted feeling exasperated all over again. "Why would you show up here?"

She was looking at me as if I had grown two horns. I didn't care if she knew the rules, his rules. She also knew that she had angered him by the way his tone dropped at his last statement.

"I thought it was the perfect time. What I didn't know is that he had a guest he was entertaining," she said unmoved. "I don't mind. I can wait until he gets bored. He always gets bored with them in the long run."

"You are crazy!" I gritted out. "You still want to get back with him after you broke his heart?" I asked incredulously. "Scheiße."

I could feel my blood boiling. I had to step back and take deep breaths to calm myself. Ro was going to have to deal with this sooner or later. For now, I don't want to have anything to do with her craziness. So I decided to change the subject. I turned towards her again.

"How's Liam by the way? Did you bring him?"

"He's fine. No, I left him with my parents."

"I can't wait to see him. You should've waited in Monte Carlo with him. We were heading there at the month's end."

"And miss out on all the fun," she said with a devilish grin. " Besides, you know I miss my best friend, Kat." She squeezed my hand when she said that. "Liam would have started school soon, anyway."

I smiled because I missed her too. It's been ages since I have seen her. I went back to Germany to finish my Master's Degree, and she came with me, but she had other plans. She always has other plans.

My mother was adamant that I finished my degree. I was only 25 and I had the rest of my life ahead of me. Mother constantly reminded me of this fact. I should finish my degree and find a career path that is beneficial to my future or start my own company. I followed her advice and started my own company. I still have a lot of work to do but it was on its feet and running successfully so far. I needed a break from the world of fashion merchandising, and I was more than happy when Roman called and invited me to his home to meet his new girlfriend. Or else I would've gone back to Düsseldorf after Mahieu stood me up. My mind wondered how Mahieu would react, now I've seen her reaction. Regardless, I was really happy that my cousin had moved on.

"Which class is he in?" I asked excitedly.

"Cours Élémentaire 1 (CE1). I'm very proud of him. He is intelligent. He's even good at racing like his père."

"That's wonderful. I know Roman is proud."

"Very. Can I ask you something?" She turned to take a seat on the sofa. I followed her and sat down.

"What is it?"

"What's with Roman?" Her eyebrows knitted together at his name.

"It's something he has to do again," I responded.

"Oh. Well, I take it that the young lady he is with doesn't know?" she asked seriously.

"No," I began laughing.

"What is it? What did I say wrong."

"It's nothing. Her name is Sage and she's only 3 years younger than yourself."

She stared at me and began laughing too. We stayed like that for a couple of minutes, then our laughter faded. We began to catch up on our lives and what had happened in between the time she and I were separated.

"Tell me something, does she know about Liam yet?"

"No, not yet. Give him time. He's taking his time with her."

"Or hiding him from a stranger. She knows nothing of our son's existence. I'm glad. I want to know who she is before she's welcomed into his life."

"Don't worry Roman won't do anything without running it by you first, regarding Liam. You know this."

Even with her crazy hopes of Roman and her reuniting, Mahieu was always a great mother to Liam. She constantly worries about his safety. She made sure that he went to the best schools and gave him everything. She didn't spoil him, but Roman did since Liam is his first-born son, an honour to the Heinrich legacy.

"I love your dress. You look fantastic."

"Merci! You're going to make me blush. I feel so fat these days. I have to watch what I eat and stop indulging with Liam."

I smiled. Mahieu looked great. She was a former model and having a 9-pound baby seven years ago hadn't changed much of her features. Her tall, petite frame was now accentuated by the little curves in her hips and she now had a B-cup. Her waist was still thin and the summer floral dress she wore now highlighted how radiant she looked.

"Bitte. Speaking of which. I am starving, let's have brunch. I know a place not too far from here where we can get a delicious salad."

"You are going to eat a salad with me?

"Not in a million years. They have an enticing menu for breakfast and brunch. So let's go before I die."

"Okay. Allons-y."

"I'll send Roman a message of our whereabouts. I don't want him to worry."

"D'accord. Allez, allez. Vite, aujourd'hui," she said in a mocking tone.

Her hands rushed us along. I smiled and took her hand to help her up. Then we headed towards that door where the sun shone brightly.
