I sat with Ronnie for a few more hours, and in those hours she slept and we spoke of the accident and how her mother was adamant about filing a suit against the wrongful driver. The lawyer in Mrs. B. never retired. Roman had dropped off the food by them and was waiting outside the room door until he got a call and had to leave. He told me that when I was ready I should call him to pick me up.

Afterward, Ronnie informed me that Mrs. Beauchamp would return in the evening and check on her again. Rohit, Veronica's older brother, and his Sudanese wife were flying in from South Africa with their five children for the wedding. That's the reason for her parents leaving earlier because they had to pick them up at the airport. I didn't even know that they had left Toronto from the time Ronnie was babysitting her nieces and nephews. They did in short order and Ronnie forgot to tell me she admitted. Rohit and Saliha wanted to go to London with their immediate family for the wedding, instead of travelling from Jo'Burg to London. The short time they spent here was not enough, so they turned it into a family trip. Rohit wanted to get to know Javed better.

Ronnie came off the phone with her brother after her mother picked him and his family up. They were headed to the house in Mississauga.

"Okay, bye. Love you guys too," she ended. "What a day. I'm so tired and I've been sleeping."

"You do need your rest. You've worked a lot."

"I was looking forward to our little vacation to the Toronto Islands. I'd rest then. I have sooo much to do."

"Relax."

We lay in the bed together, scrolling through the channels on the television.

"Why did Roman show up at your house this morning anyway?" She asked still scrolling.

"Huh," I racked my brain. "I don't know he never said. I'll ask."

"Yeah, do that. The little stalker."

"He texted this morning and told me I got the job, but I didn't reply after I told him thanks."

"So he showed up so you could thank him in person," she blurted out laughing.

"Oh my gosh. You're unhinged."

She laughed, still scrolling through the channels. This time she sputtered and clutched at her side, coughing, then groaning in pain.

"Ronnie," I scrambled to her side.

"I'm fine," she said, holding out her hand to stop me from examining her. "I'm fine. No need to worry. It hurts sometimes. I need rest."

I sat down next to her and watched her recollect herself, and continued scrolling leisurely through the channels.

"Guess what?" She said after a few minutes of settling on a horror film.

"What?"

"The horrors persist. It seems like Sher's been lying about her fiancé being her fiancé," she said, her eyes found mine.

"Yeah, because the girl on the phone definitely didn't sound like Sher," I added. I just didn't care.

"Yeah. Someone from the office spotted her and her actual boyfriend. Jon, if you can remember him," she asked.

I smiled, "Yes I remember him. I haven't been gone that long."

"So Jon and Sher's boyfriend, Randy went to high school together. Randy works on a rig somewhere off the coast of Greenland."

"I'm guessing Sher was not too pleased with the catch-up."

"Furious," I said dramatically. "Sher and Randy are engaged though."

Ronnie turned her attention back to the movie when someone was dying, at the hands of an entity.

"She should be happy someone is willing to put up with her bullshit for the rest of his life."

"Yeah or to stick with her cheating ass, because why the hell would she lie about Wong if she wasn't already sleeping with him," Ronnie added.

"Good observation."

"She thrives too much off of rub shit into people's faces, and that's a low blow. For you and Randy."

"She couldn't resist being a bitch," I said curtly.

"Agreed."

A pause lapsed in the conversation before I began. "Um, you and Javed? Oded? What's his name?"

A blush crept up on Ronnie's face again, before she replied, "His name is Oded and Javed. Well, his name is Oded Dastaan Javed Khan and soon I'll be Mrs. Veronica Ophelia Khan."

I heard the pride in her voice, which had me smiling.

"Okay, Mrs. Khan. Damn, that's a lot of names."

"It's customary to have that many names. He has his names, which are the first two, and his father's name and his father's family name."

"Got it," I said, trying to keep up as best as possible. I didn't want to be left behind.

Then I saw a sinister smile creep onto Ronnie's face before she turned to me.

"We were planning on having sex in here," she grinned.

"Oh my gosh. Too much information."

"Alas, everyone came and spoilt all the fun. No sexual fun for me," she finished, lying back and yawning into her hand.

"You're awfully sleepy."

"It's the damn pills and injections the nurses keep giving me. I am forced to rest as you've always wanted."

I smiled, "Good. You need to." I kissed her forehead before going to the window.

"I'm going to call Roman to come get me."

Ronnie shook her head lazily as her eyes fluttered closed. I turned to the window and hit the call button. It didn't go through, instead, Roman's name flashed on my screen, and I answered. He told me he was outside waiting for me. I was about to leave when Mrs. B. and Rohit filed into the room. I left them, but not before kissing Ronnie on the forehead, and then heading out to the hospital parking lot.
