I watched in horror as Roman pummeled Wong's face until he finally registered what was happening. I clenched my thighs together and hopped off the couch in fright. I watched the guys sparring match unfold. Roman was much larger and taller than Wong and so he was getting in a lot of hits. I couldn't take it anymore, so I intervened.
"Roman! Stop! You're hurting him." He didn't even budge.
He continued to feed Wong's face with his fists. Wong, on the other hand, saw no end and tried to get away from the crazed German. He blocked his fists as best as he could. Eventually, Roman snapped, grabbed Wong by the neck, and slammed his body down onto the couch. Then he turned his eyes to me, before returning to Wong. He was bent over Wong's body, with a storm raging in his icy blues. I was scared.
"Scheiße! Ich sollte dir das Genick brechen," he spat at Wong's face.
Then his venomous eyes returned to me. A lump formed in my throat. I dared not move under his menacing gaze.
"Is this how you spend your time, Sage?" He sounded deadly.
I was stricken with guilt and shame. My voice is barely audible. I couldn't find the words I was looking for. I can't say how many times this man has made me lose myself. It was beginning to irritate me. I watched as Wong struggled to get Roman's hand off his neck, his feet were caught in some frantic movements. I heard him choke on expletives. My eyes flickered back to the sea brewing deeply in Roman's eyes. His breathing was calm, his entire demeanor was composed. It was horrific.
"N-no," I choked out.
"Then why is he here?" He rasped. More anger flashed in his eyes.
Until we all turned to a sudden noise coming from the coffee table. It was Wong's phone, ringing. Roman picked it up, curled an eyebrow, and handed the cell to me.
"Answer." It was a command. His lilt was stronger than ever in a lowered tone.
I looked at the phone screen in my hand and saw a woman's name flashing on the front. I answered without a second thought.
"Hello." The woman and I spoke simultaneously.
"Who is this?" The woman asked. I was curious as well to know who she was.
"A friend of Branden and you?" A long pause stretched between us.
"Friend? ...That's weird I know all of Branden's friends... May I have your name? Also, why are you answering his phone? I need to speak with him it's urgent."
I was caught off guard by her slightly hostile tone that she was trying and failing to keep in check.
"Sage and he's–" My eyes dropped to his disposition, then met Roman's eyes. "Hung up at the moment. You can leave a message and I'll be sure to tell him."
I was a bit irked and I sure do love to toy with people that asked for it.
"Sage," I heard her hiccup and then another pause and... was that tears? She was crying. I can't believe she was crying.
"You tell that piece of shit fiancé of mine, that when he gets back to Manitoba that he can have his damn ring back!"
I pulled the phone from my ear while she yelled. I was taken aback. She'd hung up. She knew who I was. I turned to Wong who had stopped fighting against Roman's grip. He was now looking up at me and his phone in my hand with fear in his eyes.
"What did you do?" He rasped with blood and bruises on his face. Roman let him go by then. I was appalled. My anger surfaced for the first time.
"What did I do? You did everything you asshole! You have, correction had a fiancée and you failed to mention this piece of information to me!" I shouted.
