He looks at her as she withers away,
her enthusiasm nearly fading away
the shine in her eyes no longer expectant
the chirpiness in her voice all gone
she's trying hard to convince him to give up
giving up now will hurt less than mourning later, she knows that
but he won't agree,
he wants to be there till her last breath
he wants to hold her till she gives up
he wants to keep looking at her for as long as he can,
capture it like a polaroid in his heart,
for he knew what he was getting into,
he knew 6 months was all she could give,
but even a second with her,
was worth all the pain, all the heartbreak
6 months but she gave him the love of a lifetime.
now there he is,
tears in his eyes,
standing up on the podium, the eulogy prepared
but he must smile, for she wanted him to bid her happily,
he knows she has her peace now,
and their love, no matter how short-lasting,
will always give him that.
