Day after day passed without Tyler. To my surprise, they weren't all that bad. I guess that I hadn't really gotten used to being with Tyler all the time, since we just started dating. So, my daily life wasn't that different with him gone. That being said, I still desperately wanted to see him. Although we facetimed on almost a daily basis, it wasn't the same. Tyler was always tired, or I had classes, or he had a show, or the connection was bad, etc. I wanted to feel his fingers intertwined with mine. I wanted to feel the warmth and comfort of his embrace, the tenderness of his lips against mine. I pushed the feelings away, because they only made me long for him more.
I had been keeping myself busy with my academics and other friends. Now that I wasn't so tied down with a guy, I was able to actually have a social life with friends. I met a bunch of new people, and I must admit, we had some pretty good times. Additionally, I'd committed to the frequent dance classes. It was nearing the time where they were going to be making the final cuts for the team. In fact, the list would be posted tomorrow. Thankfully, my tendonitis didn't seem to be an issue, and I was really enjoying dance again. I hoped that I would make the cut. After they picked the team, there would be one more week of rehearsals until Thanksgiving break. After that, the team would train pretty intensely throughout December, and being competition in mid-January.
It was a quiet Sunday evening. Kara and I were in for the night studying for yet another English exam. I hadn't done so great on the last one, and needed to pull my grade up. The semester was already more than half over. After about an hour's worth of studying Kara left to take a shower.
I hadn't talked to Tyler yet today so I sent him a text.
Me: Hey, facetime? I know it's getting late, I meant to call you earlier.
Tyler's response was instantaneous.
Tyler: I was just getting my phone to call you!!
Before I could respond, I recieved his facetime call.
"Hey!" he said more energetically than usual.
"Hiya! Someone's in a good mood!" I replied.
"Yeah, I actually got to catch up on my sleep today. That's why I haven't texted or called you."
"That's good, you needed it."
"When do you get to go home for Thanksgiving?"
"Next Saturday! When are you guys coming in?"
"We're not sure yet, but we'll be there before Turkey Day, I promise."
"Awesome, I can't wait to see you, like in person."
"Me too. I also need a break. Touring is rough. And I miss you so so much," he said.
"We've just got to make it through about one more week," I replied optimistically.
We continued talking. He shared stuff about the tour and his music, while I shared stuff about dance.
"How's the art project with Madison going?" he asked.
"We haven't actually started yet. We're going to next class. He gave the class two extra days for the clay sculptures, since most of us weren't done."
"Gotcha," he paused, "Would you mind not telling her that we're, ya know, dating?"
"Uhh... I wasn't planning on telling her, but just because I don't want her to hate me even more during this project. The question is, why do you care? Do you still have feelings for her?" my voice became shaky with fear.
"No.. no, not at all. I just... I just don't want her to get hurt. I mean I did really like her. And like you said, if you tell her you're just going to piss her off."
I wasn't buying this. Why was he so concerned about her feelings? Is he just a nice guy? Or is he having second thoughts?
Kara barged through the door in her towel.
"Ooh, sorry. Am I interrupting? I can go back..."
"No, we were just hanging up," I said and looked back at pixelated Tyler. "Goodnight Tyler," I said as I pressed the "end" button.
"Something up?" Kara asked.
"Nah, it's nothing. We should get back to studying."
