We pulled up to the small motel. Above the entrance the words, "Berkeley Motel" were lit up, with the exception of the "k" in "Berkeley" and the "e" in "motel." So basically it read, "Ber eley Mot l." Yeah, it was cheap, but it would have to do. I parked the car in the close-to-empty parking lot, and we went inside. I signed us in with the bored receptionist, who then gave us a key and directions to our room.

I flipped the light switch up. The room was small, but quaint. It wasn't half as bad as I expected it to be. Instead, I found it somewhat cozy. There was one bed (which took up most of the room), a small television, a desk, a chair, and a bathroom. We didn't have any luggage with us, besides my purse. I was already wearing sweats and a tee, and Tyler had a sweatshirt and jeans on.

Tyler plopped down on the bed, and I sat beside him. We sat in silence for a moment or two. Then, he abruptly turned toward me. His long face gave me a silent stare. I couldn't tell if he was going to cry, or kiss me, or just look at me. Tyler was very hard to read sometimes. I turned my head towards him, waiting for him to say something. He opened his mouth slightly to begin, but then shut it and turned away from me without saying anything.

"Uh... I'm gonna go wash my face and clean up in the bathroom," he finally broke the eerie silence, as he got up, headed to the bathroom, and shut the door tightly behind him.

Well, that went well. I sat there for a long time. I could hear the sink running in the bathroom. Eventually, it shut off, and the shower began. I looked at the clock. It was almost eleven. For some reason, I was exhausted. I adjusted myself under the covers to get comfortable, and pulled out my phone. I had a bunch of missed calls from my mom. I figured I should let her know I was okay so she didn't report me missing or anything.

Within the first ring, she picked up.

"Jessica Marie! I've been calling you for hours. Where are you?" she shouted.

"Mom! I'm fine... calm down," I began. I knew that if I told her where I was, she would drive over here and force me to go home. "I'm gonna need you to trust me for tonight. I'm safe. I'm with Tyler, but we both need our space away from you and Dad and his dad, okay? I promise I'll be back in the morning."

"Jessica, I am your mother. I have the right to know where you are."

"Considering everything you've done, I don't think you do, actually," I snapped.

"Alright, alright... I'll give you 'til noon tomorrow. You hear? No later."

"Thanks, I'll talk to you then," I said and hung up.

It seemed like Tyler had been in the bathroom for forever, but it had only been a half hour. I don't know what time it was when I drifted off to sleep.

"Jess, Jess," I heard and felt my shoulder being lightly squeezed.

I squinted open my eyes, forgetting where I was for a second. I jumped, somewhat startled.

"Hey, it's okay, it's just me," a wet-headed Tyler said. He had put his hoodie back on, but was just wearing boxers on his legs.

"Hi, sorry.. I didn't mean to fall asleep."

"Don't apologize," he said, as he gently brushed my hair away from my face. "I'm the one who should be sorry. I'm sorry I lashed out on you. None of this is your fault."

"It's okay, it's okay. I can't possibly understand what you're going through, so I have no right to criticize," I replied in a sleepy voice.

"I didn't mean what I said about us... We are great together. You are the best thing that's happened to me, and the best thing for me right now. I swear I didn't mean any of it. I love you," he said in a sweet tone.

"I love you too," I replied with a yawn followed by a smile.

I pulled him closer to me, and before I knew it, he was lying aside of me. We were gazing in each other's eyes, and then began a passionate kiss. Our lips folded over one another. I ran my fingers through his damp hair. He ran his through mine, making my messy bun fall out. He had moved his lips down my neck to my upper chest, my fingers still in his hair. I could feel the energy between us. It was like a surge of infinite power that bonded us together. I closed my eyes as he worked his lips back up to mine. He pulled off his hoodie, exposing his chest, and I ran my fingers up and down his back.

We were interrupted by a knock on the door. We froze.

"Who could that be?" I asked.

"I have no clue," Tyler answered.

As he was putting his hoodie back on, I timidly approached the door. I twisted the handle and pulled back the door to reveal... Josh.
