Ah, this is just how it’s going to be like when you two get married,” Meg said mischievously. Thankfully, Ruby had stepped into the pantry and didn’t hear her comment.
“Margret Chaze, if you make one more comment about that-” Charlie admonished.
“One more comment about what?” Ruby said as she returned.
Charlie turned red. “Oh um … about my eating habits.”
Oh Meg, don’t tease him,” Ruby chided playfully.
“Yes mother. But father always eats a lot,” She played along. Charlie stared at her daggers while Ruby covered her mouth. “Okay, I’ll leave the teasing to you, Ruby. We all know what teasing is a sign of.”
It was Ruby’s turn to turn red. “Well, it looks like I won’t be making breakfast for Meg.”
“Oh no mother! I was just kidding! Please don’t!” Meg pretended to cry.
Ruby pretended to think for a minute. “Oh fine. Just stop calling me mother!”
“Alright guys, let’s be serious now,” Charlie said, and the girls stopped laughing. “What are we going to eat?”
“You call that serious?” Ruby giggled, and everyone started to laugh again.
“I don’t think I laughed that hard in my whole entire life,” Meg said as soon as the laughter died down.
“Okay, since you guys apparently don’t want to take it seriously, ill choose,” Charlie said. “We can have vegetable omelets, chocolate chip pancakes, and maybe muffins too. Toasted with butter please.”
